UTEP Miners at ODU Monarchs
ODU has won four straight to improve to 11-2 in Conference USA, which ties them with Western Kentucky for second place. UTEP is having a rough season at 3-10 in the league but is coming off a win over Charlotte on the road, 87-86.
Miners needed a win
UTEP had lost six straight and Charlotte had lost 10 so something had to give on Thursday night from North Carolina. There are no ties. UTEP nearly blew a 22-point first-half lead and had to rally late in the game to beat Charlotte by one. It took a Paul Thomas short jumper with two season left to give the Miners their first road win of the season. UTEP shot 53.6 percent from the floor and 11-of-20 from beyond the arc. Isiah Osborne and Evan Gilyard led the the Miners with 22 points apiece, while Thomas added 15 points and 11 rebounds. The 49ers shot 50 percent from the floor and 14-of-24 from beyond the arc (58.3%). On the season, the Miners average 67.4 points per game on 42.9 percent shoot and allow 72.3 points per game on 43.5 percent shooting.
Stith leads Monachs to blowout win over UTSA
The Stith family has given Jeff Jones a lot of production over the years. When Jones was at Virginia, Bryant Stith was one of the top wings in the country and went on to the NBA. He’s now an assistant coach for ODU, while sons Brandn and B.J. play for the Monarchs. Senior Brandan is the power forward (6-7, 240), who does the dirty work (8.4ppg, 7.2rpg). B.J. , who started his career at Virginia, averages 15.3 points on 41.8 percent 3-point shoot, and resembles has father to a degree. B.J. had a monster game agaisnt Texas-Arlington with 36 points and 10 rebounds on 11-of-17 shooting with 28 in the first half. ODU shot 52.4 percent from the floor and 15-of-26 from beyond the arc (57.7%). They also outrebounded the Mavericks, 42-28 in just a dominant performance.

UTEP is just a horrible basketball team. They were fortunate to beat he worst team in the conference. Now they walk into Norfolk against a squad that is playing as well anybody in Conference USA. Will be another big game by the Stith family.
