Missouri State hosts Drake at JQH Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs have rebounded a bit lately winning three of their last four games. The Bears dropped a heartbreaker at Southern Illinois after winning back-to-back contests. Drake took the first meeting between these two teams, 61-58, on January 20th.
Timmer nearly hits 40 as Bulldogs blow away Bears
Drake’s offense has finally kicked it in gear lately, and they really went into overdrive in their latest victory against Indiana State, 90-76. They were only one-point favorites, but they were able to hit 53.6 percent of their shots and converted 13-of-29 3-pointers. While the Sycamores answered with 13 3-pointers their own, the difference came in free throws. Indiana State made all nine attempts, but Drake made nearly double that by converting 17-of-21.
In fact, Reed Timmer (19 ppg) went 9-for-9 from the free throw line all by himself. That was just a small part of his incredible night where he hit 11-of-19 overall and made eight 3-pointers to finish with 39 points. This is the second time he surpassed the 20-point mark in his last four games. While it doesn’t look like Drake can win the regular season title, they can still get the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Bears turnovers doom them in single-digit loss at Salukis
Missouri State isn’t well known for putting points on the board, but they’ve been having lots of success in their last three games. Those results converted into two victories for them, but they fell just short in a tough 81-80 overtime loss at Southern Illinois. They were underdogs in the contest, so the ATS win streak is still alive at three. The Bears had a slightly better field goal percentage at 45.2 percent, but SIU made more field goals.
MSU had the advantage on the glass with a 36-28 advantage, but 17 turnovers gave the Salukis a lot more opportunities to beat them (eight more FGA). Alize Johnson (15.6 ppg, 11.5 rpg) was the biggest culprit with a team-high four turnovers, but he was able shine elsewhere by delivering 15 points and 16 rebounds while still maintaining a positive passing ratio with five assists. Jarrid Rhodes led the team with 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after a SU win
- 3-10 ATS in their last 13 meetings at Bears
Missouri State is:
- 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games after an ATS win
- The home team, who is 17-6 ATS in the last 23 meetings in this matchup
This is a pretty tough matchup considering both teams are playing well right now. While the Bulldogs could be back, it’s too tempting to pick this Bears team that has been rolling offensively lately.
