The Wisconsin Badgers will host the Purdue Boilermakers in a Big Ten clash Tuesday night from the Kohl Center. The Boilermakers fell 68-52 against Ohio State last time out, and the Badgers routed Nebraska 81-64 on Saturday. The Boilermakers posted a big 70-51 home win over the Badgers last month.

Purdue Dips Below .500 in Big Ten Play

The Purdue Boilermakers will be attempting to avoid their third straight defeat in this one. They were routed 68-52 at Ohio State on Saturday in a clash that had Purdue tagged as 5.5 point dogs. The Boilermakers are now 7-8 in Big Ten play and could be in tough to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. They are currently pegged as a #10 seed in ESPN’s Bracketology.

Trevion Williams has not been quite as productive recently, reaching double-digits in only one out of his last four games. The sophomore forward is having a strong year overall, recording an average of 11 PPG and 7.4 RPG. Eric Hunter Jr. has netted at 12 points in four out of his last five games. The sophomore guard is one of Purdue’s biggest threat’s from three-point range and he is averaging 10.4 PPG. Jahaad Proctor is playing well and has connected on at least 50% of his field goals in four straight contests. The senior guard has increased his season average to 9.8 PPG.

The Boilermakers are ranked 26th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and hold a 3-7 road record. Purdue is currently averaging 68.6 points, ranking them 256th in DI. They are holding opponents to 62.1 points, good for 22nd overall.

Wisconsin Stomps Nebraska, Targets Third Straight Win

The Wisconsin Badgers are hunting for their third consecutive victory. They have also come away with the win in three out of their last four games led by their stifling defense. The Badgers have improved to 8-6 in Big Ten action, placing them in seventh in the conference. Wisconsin covered the 6.5 points spread in a dominating 81-64 road win over Nebraska on Saturday. They are projected as a #8 seed in ESPN's Bracketology.

Nate Reuvers has netted at least 13 points in four out of his last five games overall. The junior forward is a terrific defensive player and is averaging 13.6 PPG on 46% shooting. D’Mitrik Trice is hot from beyond the arc where he is 5 for 12 in his last two games. The junior guard scored 15 points in Saturday’s victory and is now averaging 9.8 PPG and 4.3 RPG. Brad Davison is coming off a huge 30 point effort on Saturday. The junior guard was struggling prior to Saturday’s big game and is posting 9.3 PPG.

The Badgers are placed 28th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and feature an 11-1 home record. Wisconsin is scoring an average of 66.4 points, ranking them 304th overall. They are limiting opponents to 61.8 points, good for 20th in all of DI.

Rating:

I expect a solid home win from Wisconsin. The Boilermakers were just crushed 68-52 on the road against Ohio State on Saturday. Wisconsin is looking good, winning three out of their last four games overall which includes wins against Michigan State and Ohio State. Wisconsin is very tough at home where they have compiled four consecutive wins.

Furthermore, the Badgers’ spectacular defense should be able to neutralize a low scoring Purdue team. The Badgers have allowed an average of only 63.5 points in their last four games. The Boilermakers lack scoring punch as seen in their 42.6% shooting percentage and I can’t see them solving this Badgers defense.

Prediction: Wisconsin Badgers

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

I am selecting the over in this one. The total for this game is quite low and expect it to go over. These teams played to a 70-51 decision in the first meeting last month in which the over cashed. Wisconsin has scored 70 and 81 points respectively in their last two games and the over hit in those clashes as a result. The over is also 8-2-1 in the Badgers’ last 11 home games overall.

In addition, the Purdue defense can’t be trusted. They allowed 88 points to Penn State two games ago and Ohio State shot just under 50% against them on Saturday. The over is 6-1 in the Boilermakers’ last eight games.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet

Rating:

The under on the Purdue team total offered on PointsBet is as strong play. The Badgers’ defense has been very tough to solve at home. They have allowed an average of only 62.8 points in their six Big Ten home games which included only 57 points given up against Ohio State. Moreover, the Badgers have held their last three opponents to 41% or lower shooting from the field.

Prediction: Purdue Team Total Under

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Wisconsin should have a decent lead by the half. Wisconsin is hot in the first half where they just scored 39 points in Saturday’s win. Also, the Badgers usually stifle their opponents in the first half where they are conceding an average of only 29.3 points on the season.
