The Massachusetts Minutemen will host the Saint Louis Billikens in an A10 battle Tuesday night from the William D. Mullins Memorial Center. The Billikens tallied an easy 84-69 home win against La Salle last time out, and the Minutemen are coming off a 71-63 home loss to Dayton on Saturday. Saint Louis filed an 83-80 overtime home win against UMass in the first meeting this season.

Saint Louis Crushes La Salle, Ends Two-Game Slide

The Saint Louis Billikens have returned to the win column after a two game-slide. They had lost to Duquesne and Dayton and rebounded with a dominating 84-69 home win over La Salle on Saturday to cover the eight-point spread. The Billikens stand at 7-5 in A10 play, placing them in the middle of the conference.

Jordan Goodwin is consistently producing and has collected at least 20 points in two out of his last three games. The junior guard filed the double-double in Saturday’s victory and he features an average of 15.4 PPG and 10.3 RPG. Javonte Perkins has reached 20 points in two out of his last four games. The junior forward isn’t always accurate with his shot and he owns a 40% efficiency from the field on an average of 13.7 PPG. Hasahn French has connected on over 60% of his field goals in two out of his last three clashes. The junior forward is having a great season, registering an average of 12.2 PPG and 10.8 RPG.

The Billikens are placed 88th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and own a 4-3 road record. Saint Louis doesn't often score big points and they are currently averaging 71.6 points, ranking them 157th overall. They are limiting opponents to 66.4 points, placing them 94th in the country.

Minutemen Competitive in Loss to #6 Dayton

The UMass Minutemen head into this game with a little bit of momentum. They were very competitive in a 71-63 home loss to #6 Dayton on Saturday in a game that had UMass labeled as 13 point dogs. Overall it has been a tough season for the Minutemen due in large part to poor defense. They have dropped three out of their last four games overall to fall to 4-8 in A10 play.

Tre Mitchell continues to thrive and has now scored over 20 in two out of his last three games. The freshman center tallied the double-double in Saturday’s win and is posting 16.6 PPG and 6.3 RPG on the season. Carl Pierre has only scored double-digits in one out of his last four games. The junior guard is 2 for 21 from deep in his last three clashes and is averaging 13 PPG on 38% shooting. Sean East II only managed four points in Saturday’s defeat. The freshman guard is now averaging 9.4 PPG and 4.6 APG.

The Minutemen are pegged down at 197th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are a solid 9-4 on their home court. UMass is averaging 69.2 points, ranking them 235th in DI. They are conceding an average of 72.8 points, placing them down at 275th overall.

I am siding with UMass in this one. UMass showed grit in their 71-63 loss to the sixth-ranked team in the country, Dayton in their previous game. Overall this Minutemen squad has been solid on their home floor where they are 3-1 in their last four games which included a win against a solid Duquesne team.

Furthermore, Saint Louis has lost two out of their last three games overall. They are a team that thrives on their defensive play but have squandered an average of 74 points in their last three games. The Minutemen took Saint Louis to overtime in a narrow 83-80 loss in the first meeting and I expect UMass to keep this one very close and possibly win.

Prediction: Massachusetts Minutemen

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

This should be a low scoring game. UMass just held one of the top-scoring teams in the country to 71 points and the under cashed as a result. Saint Louis has scored 68 or fewer points in two out of their last three games and the under is 4-1 in their last five games against UMass.

In addition, the Minutemen won’t post a big number in the offensive end. They have only averaged 62 points in their last four games overall and the Billikens are a strong defensive team. The under is 4-0 in the Minutemen’ last four games overall.

Prediction: Under

Full-Game Prop Bet

Rating:

The under on the Saint Louis team total offered on Pointsbet is worth a look. The Minutemen’ defensive performance against Dayton on Saturday has me confident in this prop bet. They have only allowed 67 and 71 points respectively in their last two games. Also, the Billikens have netted 68 or fewer points in four out of their last seven games overall.

Prediction: Saint Louis Team Total Under

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

I am sticking with the under on the halftime total. UMass has struggled in the first half from an offensive standpoint. They have only averaged 30.3 points in the opening half in their last three games. Also, I don’t expect many points from a Saint Louis team that is only averaging 29.6 points on the road in the first half this season.
