The Georgia State Panthers will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Tuesday in a Sun Belt Conference match-up. Georgia State comes into this match-up with an 11-5 overall record and is third in the Sun Belt East with a 5-4 conference record. Appalachian State is 12-9 overall and 6-6 in the Sun Belt which places them fourth in the East. These teams have already played twice, and Applachaina State won both games as a four-point home dog. The Mountaineers won 80-71 on January 22 and 74-61 on January 23.
Mountaineers drop fourth sraight game
After getting off to a 6-2 start in the Sun Belt, the Mountaineers have dropped their last four games and have also had four games canceled or postponed since February 5. Over the weekend, the Mountaineers were swept by South Alabama, losing 65-63 on Friday and 56-54 on Saturday as a 1.5 and 3.5 point favorite respectively. Senior guard Justin Forrest lead Applachian State with 20 points in each of the losses.On the season, Forrest is third on the team averaging 10.9 points in 18 games. Last year he led the team with 17.3 ppg. Appalachian State averages 70.8 points per game on the offensive end, which is eighth among the 12 teams is in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers are also second-to-last in the Sun Belt with a 31.4% on three-point shots and ninth shooting 42.1% from the field. On the defensive side of the ball, things are better. The Mountaineers are second in the conference holding opponents to 62.4 ppg points per game and fourth at 41.7% shooting from the field.
Georgia State hopes third time is a charm against App State
After losing three straight games, Georgia State won its third straight game on February 20 with a 65-53 win over Troy State, which followed an 80-66 win over Troy State on February 19. The Panthers were a 10 point favorite in each game. Senior guards Kane Williams led the way with 15 points on Friday, and Corey Allen scored a team-best 16 points on Saturday. Georgia State is the second highest-scoring team in the Sun Belt, averaging 80.5 ppg, and is shooting a lead best 47.5% from the field.
