Connecticut Huskies (10-6) vs. Georgetown Hoyas (7-10)

The Georgetown Hoyas will be looking for their third win in a row when they take on the Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday. Georgetown defeated Seton Hall on Saturday for their second straight victory, 81-75. Connecticut lost to Villanova on Saturday, 68-60. That snapped their two-game winning streak.

Connecticut is favored by 4.0-points in this game. Georgetown won the most recent meeting between these teams, 72-69 back in January 2017. The Hoyas hold a 7-3 edge in the last 10 meetings.

UConn Falls at Villanova

James Bouknight scored 21 points, but it was not enough for the Huskies to defeat Villanova as they fell, 68-60. Bouknight recorded the double-double with 10 rebounds. Tyrese came one point away from a double-double of his own, recording 11 rebounds and nine points. RJ Cole chipped in 10. It was a terrible second half that doomed Connecticut, as they shot 29.6% (8-27), including just three of 12 from the three-point range.

UConn is averaging 70.6 ppg while allowing 65.3 points per contest, 63rd in the country. They are shooting 43.0% from the floor and 34.7% from the three-point range. The Huskies are 92nd in the country in rebounds per game at 34.3 and are sixth in block shots at 5.6 per contest.

Bouknight leads the team in scoring at 20.1 ppg. Martin is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 per contest and leads the team in rebounding at 7.6 boards per game. Cole is also averaging in double digits at 12.1 points per contest.

Georgetown Shoots Their Way to Victory

The Hoyas shot 50% from the floor and hit five three-pointers in both halves on their way to an 81-75 victory over Seton Hall. The Hoyas finished 10 of 16 from the three-point range and were 28 of 56 overall. Jamorko Pickett led the team in scoring with 20 points, one of five Georgetown players to score in double digits. Qudus Wahab recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 11 points.

Georgetown is averaging 72.1 ppg while allowing 73.4 points per contest. They are shooting 42.9% from the floor and 36.8% from the three-point range, 59th in the country. They are 57th in the nation in free-throw shooting at 74.8%. The Hoyas are seventh in the country in rebounds at 38.0 per game.

Jahvon Blair is the leading scorer for Georgetown at 16.2 ppg. Pickett is second in scoring at 12.7 per game and is the leading rebounder at 8.4 per contest. Wahab is close behind at 8.1 boards per game and is third in scoring at 11.7 points per contest.

It is stunning that these teams have not faced each other in three years. Now they get the opportunity to renew a storied rivalry.

Georgetown enters as the team playing a little bit better basketball right now and they have proven to be the better shooting team, especially from three-point range in the foul line. In addition, they have done a great job on the boards, seventh overall in the country.

There are clearly some advantages that the Hoyas have in this game, but I love the play of Bouknight. He is a difference-maker on the floor, and I believe he will lead Connecticut to the victory here.

Prediction: Take Connecticut and give up the points -4.0 (-110)

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The total is set at 139.0. Georgetown has gone over in five of their last six games, but have gone under in nine of their last 13 at home. Connecticut has gone over in 15 of their last 20 games against teams with a winning percentage below 40%. No real trends here to help with the total.

Looking at recent scores does not help either. Georgetown scored 81 against Seton Hall and 78 against Butler, but they had just 48 against Creighton back on February 9. Connecticut scored 60 against Villanova but had 73 against Providence and 80 against Xavier and the two previous contests. The more sensible call looks to be going with where these teams average in points per game. That is that about 143 per game.

Take Connecticut to win 75-70.

Prediction: Go under 163.0 (-110)
