The VCU Rams will host the Saint Louis Billikens in an A10 showdown on Tuesday night. The Billikens had their winning streak slashed in a rough loss to Dayton last time out.
The Rams are coming off a surprising overtime home loss to George Mason on Saturday. Saint Louis posted an 80-62 home win over VCU in the only meeting last season.
Saint Louis' Winning Streak Ends in Loss to Dayton
The Saint Louis Billikens will be eager to return to the court. They had their four-game winning streak come to an end in an ugly 76-53 road loss to Dayton on Friday in a clash that had the Billikens labeled as six-point dogs. Saint Louis is a good team but has been wildly inconsistent and stands at 4-3 in A10 play as a result. They have covered in three of their seven conference games.
Javonte Perkins is a big scoring threat but only managed seven points in the loss to Dayton. The senior guard has scored at least 19 points in two out of his last three bouts and enters this one averaging 17 PPG on 46.8% shooting. Jordan Goodwin has earned three double-doubles in his last four games. The senior guard is having a tremendous season, registering 14.6 PPG accompanied by 10.4 RPG. Gibson Jimerson is slumping, netting only a total of eight points in his last two games. The sophomore guard owns an average of 9.9 PPG on 44% shooting.
The Billikens are ranked 51st in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and were in the AP top 25 at one point. Saint Louis is averaging a stellar 76.9 points on the season, placing them 65th overall. They are conceding an average of 64.4 points, landing them 43rd in the country.
Rams Stunned by George Mason, Seek First Place Finish
The VCU Rams enter this one on a losing note. The Rams were 9.5 point favorites in a 78-69 home win over George Mason on Saturday. These are big games as VCU is looking to secure first place in the A10. They are tied with St. Bonaventure in first place with a 9-3 record. VCU is playing outstanding defense in conference play and has covered the spread in five of their 11 A10 clashes on the season.
Nah’Shon Hyland continues to dominate. The talented sophomore guard has tallied at least 20 points in two out of his last three games. Hyland is third in the A10 with an average of 19.2 PPG on 44% shooting. Vince Williams Jr. is contributing in all areas and has scored double-digits in three out of his last four clashes. The junior forward features an average of 10.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG. Levi Stockard III is tough to contain and has sunk at least 60% of his field goals in five out of his last six performances. The senior forward is posting 6.9 PPG on a 59% clip from the field.
The Rams are currently placed 46th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and only have one home defeat all season. VCU is scoring an average of 73.2 points, ranking them 134th in DI. They are limiting opponents to 65.2 points, positioning them 55th overall.
