The South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in an SEC clash Wednesday night from the Colonial Life Arena. The Bulldogs tallied an 80-78 road win against Vanderbilt on Saturday, and the Gamecocks were charged with an 86-80 home loss by LSU in their weekend action. South Carolina topped Georgia 75-59 earlier this month.

Georgia Seeks Third Straight Win

The Georgia Bulldogs enter this one hunting for their third straight win. Overall it has been a tough season for a young Bulldogs team but they have momentum on their side right now. They were three-point favorites in an 80-78 road win against Vanderbilt on Saturday. Georgia is now only 4-10 in conference action, placing them in second last in the entire SEC.

Watch for Anthony Edwards in this game. The talented freshman guard scored 19 points in Saturday’s win and has eclipsed the 20 point mark 11 times this season. Edwards has compiled an average of 18.9 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Rayshaun Hammonds has connected over 60% of his shots in two out of his last three games. The junior forward is having a terrific year, registering an average of 12.3 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Sahvir Wheeler has netted a total of 24 points in his last two clashes. The freshman guard has increased his season average to 8.8 PPG.

The Bulldogs are placed 99th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and are 3-7 on the road. Georgia is scoring an average of 75.6 points, good for 65th in all of DI. They are squandering an average of 74.4 points, pegging them down at 296th overall.

South Carolina Needs Big Finish to Keep Tourney Hopes Intact

The South Carolina Gamecocks will need a very strong finish if they want to earn a bid to the NCAA Tourney. They have lost two straight games to dip to 8-6 in SEC play on the season, placing them in the top half of the conference standings. Right now they can be considered a bubble team for the tourney. The Gamecocks were one point dogs in an 86-80 home loss to LSU on Saturday.

A.J. Lawson has scored 13 or fewer points in each of his last three tilts. The sophomore guard has surpassed 20 points six times this season and enters this one averaging 13.7 PPG on 43% shooting. Jermaine Couisnard has posted a field goal efficiency below 40% in four straight games. The freshman guard scored 15 points last time out and has recorded an average of 12.2 PPG on the season. Maik Kotsar continues to contribute in all areas and collected 21 rebounds in his last three games. The senior forward is third in team scoring with 10.9 PPG to go with 6.5 RPG.

The Gamecocks are placed 69th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and stand at 10-5 at home. South Carolina is scoring an average of 71.8 points, ranking them 155th overall. They are holding options to 67.5 points, positioning them 128th in DI.

Insiders Status:

I am taking the points with Georgia in this game. The Bulldogs enter this one with momentum. They have won two straight games which included a 65-55 home win over a ranked Auburn squad. South Carolina has dropped their last two clashes and they have surrendered 79 and 86 points in those two defeats.

Furthermore, the Bulldogs have covered the spread in many of their SEC losses this season. The Bulldogs do have some scoring punch and are shooting a respectable 44.8% as a team. The Gamecocks defense has been exploited in their last two games and I expect Georgia’s offense to keep them in this game.

Prediction: Georgia Bulldogs

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I expect a high scoring clash. South Carolina has fared well from an offensive standpoint recently, collecting at least 74 points in four out of their last five contests overall. The Georgia defense is among the worst in the SEC. The over is a 6-0 in the Bulldogs’ last six road games overall.

In addition, both teams play at a faster pace which means plenty of field goal attempts. South Carolina ranks 58th in DI in pace and Georgia is 37th. The over is 4-0 in Georgia’s last four games following a straight-up win and that trend should prevail again.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The over on the Georgia team total is worth a look. The Bulldogs have averaged a solid 74.7 points in their last three road games which included 75 points against a strong defensive Florida team. Anthony Edwards (18.9 PPG) is a big scoring threat and he should help keep his team in the game from an offensive standpoint.

Prediction: Georgia Team Total Over

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

I am staying with Georgia on the halftime line. The Bulldogs are averaging a solid 34.7 points in the first half this season. Moreover, their defense has been solid in the opening half recently where they have limited their opponents to 31.3 points in their last three games which is below their season average of 34.3.

Prediction: Georgia Bulldogs
