Richmond will be looking for a bounce-back performance from its loss on Saturday when it travels to George Washington on Wednesday night. The Spiders had their five-game winning streak snapped in a road loss to St. Bonaventure. George Washington is coming off a loss to La Salle at home.

Richmond remains one game back of Rhode Island

Richmond is still a game behind Rhode Island for second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings after both teams lost on Saturday. The Spiders are 10-4, which places them in a tie with St. Bonaventure for third place in the conference. Dayton is running away with the regular-season crown, sitting at 14-0 and 25-2 overall. St. Bonaventure controlled most of Saturday’s game against Richmond. The Bonnies jumped out to an eight-point halftime lead and led by 10 points with 50 seconds remaining. Richmond went on a late 8-1 run, but it was not enough in the 75-71 setback.

Junior guard Blake Francis leads Richmond with 17.3 points per game and 2.2 assists per game. He is an adequate 3-point shooter, making 57 of 160 attempts from beyond the arc. Junior guard Jacob Gilyard is scoring 13.4 points per game and is the top distributor on the squad with 5.5 assists per game. He has made 38.0 percent of his 137 attempts from beyond the arc. Junior forward Grant Golden is scoring 13.4 points per game and is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.0 boards per contest. Junior guard Nick Sherod is the final player in double figures, scoring 12.3 points per outing.

Colonials in middle of pack

George Washington is sitting in the middle of the pack in the conference standings. The Colonials are 12-15 overall, including a 6-8 mark in the Atlantic 10. They are coming off a home loss to La Salle on Saturday. George Washington was pegged as a slight 3-point favorite, but fell behind 39-25 at halftime. The Colonials were unable to come back in the second half, losing the game 72-62. La Salle ended a five-game road losing streak in the win. The Explorers shot 50.0 percent from the floor, while holding George Washington to a 37.8 percent clip.

Senior guard Armel Potter leads George Washington with 14.7 points per game. He is the engine of the offense, dishing out 5.7 assists per contest. Freshman forward Jamison Battle is making an immediate impact, scoring 12.0 points per game and grabbing 5.3 rebounds per game. He is the best outside shooter on the team, making 38.1 percent of his 202 attempts from long range. Junior guard Maceo Jack is scoring 11.9 points per game and has made 72 3-pointers. Freshman guard Jameer Nelson Jr. is adding 11.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per contest.

Insiders Status:

Richmond has dominated George Washington in recent years, including their match-up in February. The Spiders won that game 76-54, easily covering the 11-point spread. Their guards dominated George Washington, picking up 13 steals. Richmond has covered the spread in seven of its last eight games against the Colonials. The Spiders are also 4-2 ATS in their last six games this season. George Washington is just 2-4 ATS in its last six games and is really struggling to find any consistency. I’ll take Richmond to pick up another cover against George Washington.

Prediction: Richmond -8

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Both of these teams have been heavily shaded to the under in recent weeks. The under has hit in five of Richmond’s last six games, while it has cashed in five of George Washington’s last six contests. The Colonials like to slow the pace of the game down, ranking No. 266 in KenPom’s adjusted tempo ratings. They are inefficient on the offensive end of the court, sitting at No. 204 in adjusted offensive efficiency. The total flew under the market number of 141 in the first meeting of the season and I expect this one to go under as well.

Prediction: Under 136
