The Elon Phoenix will travel to the Corbett Sports Center on Wednesday evening in a Colonial Athletic Conference matchup to take on the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The Phoenix are 5-19 (6-6) so far this season and are riding a three-game winning streak after a 74-73 home win on Saturday against the Northeastern Huskies. The Aggies are 11-14 (6-6) so far and are riding a two-game losing streak after an 87-63 road loss on Thursday against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. These teams played on Jan. 11 and the Aggies picked up an 80-71 road win.

Another poor showing on Saturday in the NBA when the Clippers and Knicks easily finished over their point total thanks to playing into overtime and sending us to a disappointing loss. Sunday we bounce back with an NBA best bet that is sure to put us back on track and start a lengthy winning run.

Elon Needs to Show Improvement Soon

The Elon Phoenix have been doing extremely well and are coming off a good 74-73 road win against the Northeastern Huskies. They controlled the game in the opening half as they outscored Northeastern 39-28. They shot the ball at a good level as they were 30-of-60 (50 percent) overall, 6-of-25 (24 percent) from three, and nine free-throw attempts. Freshman guard Max Mackinnon led the team as in 35 minutes he finished with 20 points, two rebounds, eight assists, one steal, and four turnovers. Defensively, they were brutal as they allowed 51.1 percent from the floor and 39.1 from deep here. Elon needs to improve a bit as they forced 14 turnovers with three steals and a pair of blocks throughout the game.

The Elon Phoenix are struggling this season as they are 320th in the nation with 66.3 points per game thus far and are shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and are averaging 12.8 assists per game. Defensively, they are giving up 72.1 points per game, which is 256th in the country. They were able to do well as they finished with two blocks and 6.7 steals per game up to this point.

North Carolina A&T Needs to Climb Back to .500

The North Carolina A&T Aggies are coming off an 87-63 road loss against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks and it does not help when they allowed 42+ points in each half of the game. They did incredibly well and struggled a bit shooting the ball as they finished shooting 44.6 percent throughout the game, 16.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 15 free-throw shots. Junior forward Marcus Watson led the Aggies as in 33 minutes he finished with 17 points, five rebounds, one block, one steal, and five turnovers. Defensively, they were brutal as they allowed the Seahawks to finish 50.8 percent from the floor, 47.8 percent from three, and 22 free-throw attempts. The Aggies were able to record 10 steals and three blocks over the course of the game.

The North Carolina A&T Aggies have been a decent offensive team with 71.5 points per game, which is 177th in the country, while also dishing out 11.8 assists per game. They’ve been doing decently well as they are shooting 43.3 percent from the field so far. On the defensive side of things, they are 293rd in the nation with 73.6 points per game as well. They recorded 2.6 blocks and 7.4 steals per game this season to make things tough against them on that side of the floor.

Insiders Status:

The assist-to-turnover ratio tells us a lot about a team’s offensive abilities as the Aggies are 293rd in college basketball with a 0.849 ratio thus far while the Phoenix are 205th in the United States with a 0.981 ratio so far this season. When looking at the defenses as of late, there is a pretty noticeable difference as Elon is giving up 67 points in their previous four games while North Carolina A&T is allowing 77.2 points in their last five games. All in all, go with the Elon Phoenix to cover the spread on the road in this game.

Neither team has done too well of a job at limiting good looks at the basket as the Phoenix are 250th in the nation with a 45.1 opposing field goal percentage while the Aggies are 261st in college basketball with a 45.2 field goal percentage against thus far. The over has hit in four of the last Phoenix games on Wednesday as well as in seven of the previous eight Aggies games following a straight up loss so go with the OVER to hit here.
