Looking for Road Success

The George Mason Patriots will hope to pick up a critical road win over Duquesne on Wednesday night. With a win, the Patriots can move back to .500 on the season and jump ahead of the Dukes in the A-10 standings. On Saturday, the Patriots shot just 32% from the field and fell 69-61 at Loyola Chicago. Malik Henry, Ronald Polite III and DeVon Cooper all scored 14 points in the loss. Henry added seven rebounds while Polite led the team with four assists.

"This was not our best game," head coach Kim English said. "I thought Loyola played really hard. We battled back to make it a game and had some opportunities to take over the game. We didn't. A bounce of the ball or blow of the whistle went in a different direction. We'll watch it, learn from it and see how we can keep getting better."

George Mason's shooting performance against Loyola Chicago was out of character for one of the better shooting teams in the country. The Patriots are ranked 185th in the country in points per game. They are 80th in field goal percentage overall and an impressive 55th in 3pt field goal percentage. George Mason has not been protective of the basketball, however, ranking 288th in the nation. Defensively, the Patriots are 118th in scoring defense. They are 105th in opponent's field goal percentage. They have been stout on the perimeter, ranking 39th in 3pt defense. George Mason is also 92nd in total rebounding.

Key Injuries: G Victor Bailey Jr. is listed as questionable with a hand injury.

Duking it Out

Duquesne comes into this matchup looking to build up their A-10 record. The Dukes are just .500 in league play despite having a 15-8 overall record. On Saturday, the Dukes cruised to a 93-67 road win over George Washington. Dae Dae Grant led the way with 18 points while Quincy McGriff had a career-high 17 points, hitting on four-of-five 3pt shots. Duquesne rolled to the easy win thanks to a 28-0 run in the first half that put the game out of reach.

Duquesne has one of the highest-scoring offenses in the nation, ranking 70th overall. The Dukes are just 198th in field goal percentage overall but are an impressive 31st in the nation in 3pt shooting. Duquesne protects the basketball, ranking 86th in the country in fewest turnovers per game. The Dukes are ranked 182nd in scoring defense but are susceptible on the perimeter, ranking just 252nd in 3pt defense. The Dukes are 70th in total rebounding.

Rating:

While George Mason has played better as of late, the Duke are tough to beat at home. Duquesne is 12-3 at home this season and can score at a much higher rate than George Mason. The Dukes are also much more protective of the basketball than George Mason and should get more offensive opportunities as a result. George Mason is just 1-6 on the road this season and has lost three out of four games coming into this matchup. The Dukes still have legitimate postseason aspirations and a win here is critical.

Take the Dukes.

Duquesne is one of the top shooting teams in the conference, particularly from long-range. In addition, the Dukes have scored over 90 points in two of their last three wins. They play at a slightly above-average pace, ranking 160th in the nation in pace of play. The Dukes should take advantage of George Mason's sloppy play and generate points off of George Mason's turnovers. The Patriots will try to shoot their way into this game which will help push the game past the total.

Take the over.

Prediction: Over 140.5
