Its a battle in the Big East as the Providence Friars host the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday. The 20th ranked Friars are 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the Big East while Georgetown is 6-18 overall and 1-12 in the Big East. Providence won both games against Georgetown last season. Tipoff is at 8:00 p.m. EST at Amica Pavilion in Providence.

Georgetown has covered in 6 straight

The Georgetown Hoyas have been the Big East doormats in recent years, but they have made some progress this season -- they actually won a conference game, ending a long multi-year drought. They beat DePaul 81-76 back on January 24 but have since lost 3 straight to fall to 6-18 overall and 1-12 in the Big East. But they covered in all three of those losses.

They lost a 75-73 heartbreaker at St John's as a 10-point underdog, they lost to Creighton 63-53 as a 13-point underdog, and they lost to UConn 68-62 last Saturday as a 13.5-point underdog. So they are playing better and have been very competitive as of late. Brandon Murray has stepped up as he tossed in 21 points in the loss to UConn. He is averaging 14.8 points per game, second on the team behind Primo Spears, who averages 16.1 points per game. Georgetown is ranked No. 211 by KenPom.

Providence loses heartbreaker against Xavier

The Providence Friars have played themselves into the top 20 as they are 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the Big East. They come into this game just 1.5 games behind first-place Xavier and Marquette. The Friars had a golden opportunity to draw closer to Xavier last Wednesday, but they fell at Xavier 85-83 in overtime.

This was a great game that saw Providence erase a 14-point deficit to send the game to overtime. "I was proud of our tenacity," Providence Head Coach Ed Cooley said, according to Friars.com. "We're looking to improve and I thought we got better in the last 30 minutes of the game. We just came up a little short today." Noah Locke led Providence with 22 points while Ed Croswell chipped in with 21 points. Devin Carter added 15 points while Bryce Hopkins had 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jay Heath is out.

Georgetown has struggled to win games but they have been stalwarts when it comes to covering the spread as of late. The Hoyas have covered in 6 straight games and they have done this by cranking up the defensive intensity. While they give up 77 points per game on the season, in their last four games they have only given up 70 points per game. Plus, they have been able to cover against the best teams in the Big East including Xavier, UConn, St. John's and Creighton in recent weeks. I like Georgetown to keep it rolling here. Take Georgetown to cover this large spread.

Providence can hurt you in a lot of ways and has a lot of players who can fill it up. But Georgetown has had success in recent weeks by tightening up on defense and playing the game at a slower pace. They were able to do that against UConn last week and they have seen the under hit in their last three games. While Providence is very efficient offensively, they rank just No. 199 in pace of play so they can play the slow-down game when they need to. The total here is set a little high given their season averages, but more recent history says this game falls short of the total. Take the under in this one.

Prediction: Under 148
