Saturday evening on the College Hardwood and a pair of teams from Conference USA will square off as the Charlotte 49ers duke it out with the UAB Blazers at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
The 49ers enter this game off a 71-53 loss at Middle Tennessee to fall to 2-10 in league play, while the Blazers are off a 70-59 home loss to ODU, which dropped them to 6-54 in league play.
49ers Fall Big To The Blue Raiders
The Charlotte 49ers have had a miserable season so far as they come in at 5-18 on the year and have been ranked at 308th in the nation by KenPom. They come in off a 71-58 road loss to Middle Tennessee to fall to 2-10 in league play and 1-7 on the road. The 49ers have been outscored by 7.4 ppg in league play and by 14.6 ppg on the road. This is not a good team at all. Charlotte shot just 39.2% from the field overall while allowing the Blue Raiders to hit 49.1% of their shots overall, including 42.9% from long range. They need to be far better at both ends if they hope to upset the Blazers. Leading their attack was Jon Davis (21.2 ppg), who had 14. The 49ers have now lost their last six games in a row and they have averaged just 57.6 ppg over that stretch.
The 49ers enter this game ranked 351st in the nation in scoring at 59.3 ppg, while also ranking 314th in shooting (41.2%), 318th in three-point shooting (30.7%) and 92nd in free throw shooting (72.9%). On defense, they are 93rd in points allowed, giving up 68.0 ppg, while also ranking 128th in defensive FG% (42.9%) and 197th in three-point defense (34.4%).
Blazers Fall To ODU At Home
The UAB Blazers had been playing well and they were 6-2 in league play at one point, but they have struggled of late as they enter this game having lost their last three games in a row. Their last two losses have come here at home, but they have still gone 10-3 in their home games for the year. UAB has outscored their foes by 8.5 ppg in their home games. They will now look to get back on track against a Charlotte team that has lost their last six games in a row. UAB is off a 70-59 home loss to ODU and it was their offense that failed to show as they shot just 37.3% from the field overall, including 24% (6/25) from long range. Jalen Perry (11.3 ppg) led the attack with 14 points. The defense was not bad as they allowed ODU to hit just 44.8% of their shots overall, including 34.8% from long range.
It’s not about how many times you get knocked down, it’s about how many times you get back up.

The Blazers check in ranked 253rd in the nation in scoring at 70.6 ppg, while also ranking 131st in shooting (45.6%), 273rd in three-point shooting (32.5%) and 310th in free throw shooting (66.1%). At the defensive end of the court, they have been solid as they have allowed just 67.5 ppg, which is 77th in the nation, while also ranking 57th in defensive FG% (41.3%) and 172nd in three-point defense (34.0%).
- 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games following a double-digit loss at home
- 18-38 ATS in their last 56 road games.
- 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games vs. a team with a winning home record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Blazers have struggled of late, but they are still at 10-3 at home and will be facing a Charlotte team that has lost their last six games in a row. The Blazers have been led by their defense this year and that defense will have a good showing against a Charlotte team that has averaged just 57.6 pg over their last six games. Look for UBA to find their way back into the win column in this one and they should tame the game by around 15 points.
Prediction: UAB -10
Full-Game Total Pick
I like the Under in this one. The Blazers are not a great offensive team, but they do play solid defense and have allowed just 65.9 ppg at home. They will be able to have their way with a Charlotte offense that has averaged just 57.0 ppg on the road and just 57.6 ppg over their last six games overall. Charlotte has been solid on defense as they have allowed just 67.9 ppg in league play and the Under is 4-0 the last four games in this series. 67-52 UAB sounds about right.
Prediction: Under 126
