on Saturday afternoon. Northern Illinois is 9-8 and was blown out by Akron on Tuesday. The Falcons are coming off an 85-82 road win against Western Michigan on Tuesday, which moved them to 12-5 on the season.
Northern Illinois playing inconsistentlyNorthern Illinois has had an up-and-down season, alternating wins and losses in its last six games. The Huskies picked up a win against Chicago State, but lost to Green Bay by one point in their next game. Then they earned a 73-72 win against Buffalo before losing by a point to Central Michigan in the following game. Northern Illinois’ most recent two-game sample was a 71-68 win against Eastern Michigan followed by the blowout loss to Akron on Tuesday. The Zips raced out to a 44-20 lead at halftime to essentially seal the deal.
The Huskies are led by one of the nation’s leading scorers—senior guard Eugene German. He is pouring in 20.2 points per game and is grabbing 4.1 rebounds per game. German is the only scorer on the team in double figures. He leads the team in made 3-pointers, knocking down 42 of 120 from beyond the arc. Senior forward Lacey James is scoring 9.1 points per game and is grabbing a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Trendon Hankerson is adding 7.4 points per game and is the most efficient outside shooter on the team. Hankerson has drilled 45.7 percent of his 46 attempts from downtown.
