The Pittsburgh Panthers will host the  Northern Illinois Huskies in an inter-conference battle Monday night from the Petersen Events Center. The Huskies dropped a 66-57 decision to UC Davis last time out, and the Panthers lost 64-46 to #1 Louisville in their previous action.

Northern Illinois Falls to UC Davis in Second Straight Loss

The Northern Illinois Huskies will attempt to avoid their third straight defeat. Their mini skid started with a loss to a good Saint Mary’s team, followed by a 66-57 road loss to UC Davis in a game that had the Huskies tagged as four-point favorites. Northern Illinois was riding a six-game winning streak prior to those two defeats.

Eugene German is a big threat but he wasn’t quite as dangerous in the Huskies’ last two games. The senior guard has eclipsed 20 points seven times this season, and he is sporting an average of 20.3 PPG on 43% shooting. Lacey James is a strong rebounder but is stumbling offensively, posting a field goal efficiency below 34% in three straight games. The senior forward is posting 8.1 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Trendon Hankerson has only reached double-digits in points in one out of his last four games. The sophomore guard is shooting a sharp 51% on the season, and he is third in team scoring with 7.9 PPG.

The Huskies are currently placed 159th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball ratings and hold a 2-3 road record. Northern Illinois is only averaging 68.2 points, ranking them 263rd in the country. They are a terrific defensive team that is limiting opponents to 62.1 points, placing them 44th overall.
