The Saturday, the (1-3) Bowling Green Falcons and the (1-3) Akron Zips will match up in the fifth week of the 2022 college football season. Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM EST inside InfoCision Stadium. Both of these teams will be looking for their second win of the season, as they haven't started the 2022 season how they would have liked.
The Bowling Green Falcons are coming into this one after falling to Mississippi State, 45-14. The Falcon's defense struggled to stop the pass, as they surrendered 420 passing yards. Their secondary will have to be better in this one if they want to challenge the Zips on the road.
The Akron Zips are entering this one after falling to Liberty, 21-12. The Akron offense struggled to consistently move the ball, as they didn't give themselves enough opportunities to score. They will need to efficiently move the ball if they want to have a chance in this game at home.

Can Bowling Green Heat Up?The Bowling Green Falcons have had a slow start to the season, but their offense is still putting up points. They are currently scoring 29 points per game and averaging 305 total yards. This is the 71st most points scored per game and the 113th most yards, as they have struggled to consistently move the ball down the field. They also lean on the pass, as they are throwing for 220 yards per game. This is the 89th most in the country, as this has been the easiest way for them to move the ball. The Falcon's starting quarterback is also listed as questionable, as you will want to check on his status before this game starts. Matt McDonald did not play last week, as he was hurt in the Marshall game two weeks back. Camden Orth will get the start if McDonald is still out. The Falcons will also look to get the ball to Jaison Patterson, as he leads the team with 83 rushing yards and one touchdown this season. Bowling Green is currently running for 85 rushing yards per game, which is the 122nd most in the country. They will look to pass the ball for the majority of the game, as they will need McDonald to be healthy for this one.
On defense, the Falcons are allowing 45 points per game and they are surrendering 520 yards. This is the 128th most points given up per game and the 129th most yards. They have continued to get shredded through the air, as their secondary is currently allowing 364 passing yards per game. This is also the 130th most in the country, as they were lit up by Mississippi State and UCLA to begin the year. The Falcons have been decent against the run this season, though. They are only surrendering 155.8 rushing yards per game, which is the 84th most. Their front seven has continued to rally towards the ball, as they have been much better against the run this season. I would recommend watching for Chris Bacon, as the senior safety currently leads the team with 27 tackles. He has been flying around the field all year.
Can the Zips Rally? The Akron Zips have not started the 2022 season how they would have liked, but they still have plenty of time to turn it around. They are currently scoring 12 points per game and they are averaging 301.5 yards per game. They will look to lean on the pass, as they have struggled to run the ball all season. They are only averaging 51.8 rushing yards per game, which is the second least in the nation. Their offensive line has struggled to create holes and they aren't breaking many tackles. Akron will look to sling the ball all over the yard, as they are averaging 249.8 passing yards per game. This is the 65th most, as their wide receivers and quarterback have been doing the majority of the work when they have the ball. I would watch for DJ Irons at quarterback, as he can get the job done with his arm and legs. Last week, he threw for 269 yards and a touchdown, as he showed that he could successfully move the ball. He was shut down by Tennessee and Michigan State in the two weeks before the Liberty game. He will be looking to get the ball to Shocky Jacques-Louis, as he is the leading receiver for Akron. He has already recorded 297 yards and one touchdown.
On defense, the Zips have continued to struggle. They are currently allowing 39.8 points per game and 483.5 yards. This is the 124th most points given up per game and the 126th most yards. They struggled against Tennessee and Michigan State, as they couldn't slow down their rushing attacks. Akron is currently allowing 211.5 rushing yards per game, which is the 119th most in the nation. Their front seven has struggled, as they have failed to tackle near the line of scrimmage. Akron hasn't been much better against the pass, either. They are also surrendering 272.5 passing yards per game, as their secondary was torched by the Vols and the Spartans. Last week, they held Liberty to just 152 passing yards, as they did hold their own in that one. I would recommend watching Bubba Arslanian, as he leads the team with 43 tackles this season. The senior linebacker has continued to make play after play, as he is the heart and soul of this defense.
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
I will be hammering the Bowling Green Falcons in this game, as they are the better offensive team in this matchup. As long as McDonald starts at quarterback, the Falcons will win this game and cover the spread (-8.5). I see them easily moving the ball all over the Akron defense, as they have continued to struggle this season. They are currently giving up 39.8 points per game and 483.5 yards. The Volunteers and the Spartans lit them up, as I see the Falcons doing the same in this game. Bowling Green is currently scoring 29 points per game and they have a great passing attack. They will consistently move the ball through the air, as the Zip's secondary has struggled this season. Akron is currently allowing 272.5 passing yards per game, which is the 108th most in the country. McDonald will be able to sling the rock all over the yard and Odieu Hiliare will have a massive game. He is the Falcons leading receiver and one of Mcdonald's favorite targets. Now, I also see the Falcons running the ball all over the Zips, as well. Akron is surrendering 211.5 rushing yards per game, as their defense has continued to let them down this season. Bowling Green will be able to run a balanced offense and keep the Zips on their toes with their play calling. Akron is also only scoring 12 points per game, as I see their offense struggling at times, as well.
Bowling Green is the better team and they have a better defense. They will keep the Zips off the scoreboard and slowly pull away throughout this game. Hammer the Bowling Green Falcons and lay the points (-8.5).
Full-Game Total Pick
I will be taking the over (51.5) points, as I feel like this total is too low. The Bowling Green Falcons are going to do their part in pushing this total over the number, as they are scoring 29 points per game and the Akron defense has been horrible to begin the season. The Zips are currently allowing the 126th most yards per game, 124th most points, and they have been horrible against the run and the pass. Bowling Green will successfully move the ball up and down the field, as I expect them to score the majority of the points in this game. Now, I also see Akron having more success on the offensive side of the field. Bowling Green is currently surrendering 45 points per game and 520 yards, as their defense has also struggled to begin the season. Akron struggles to run the ball, but they do have a decent passing attack. They are throwing for the 65th most yards per game, as Dj Irons will also show up for this game. He impressed me last week, as he threw for 269 yards and a touchdown vs. Liberty. He will now continue to sling the rock, as the Zips will score enough points to push this total over (51.5).
Both of these defenses have had trouble to begin the season and I see that trend continuing in this one. Hammer the over (51.5) points and expect a lot of scoring in this one.
