Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. Georgia Southern Eagles

Where: Allen E. Paulson Stadium, Statesboro, GA

When: Saturday, October 19, 3:00 PM. ET.

The Georgia Southern Eagles will be going for their second consecutive win when they take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday afternoon.

Chanticleers Trying To Snap Two-Game Losing Streak

The Chanticleers have cooled off since their 3-1 start to the season and have lost their last two games. They will try to get back on track and pick up their fourth win of the season with a win over the Eagles on Saturday.

Coastal Carolina is giving up 26.5 points per game this season, but the team hasn’t played well defensively in their last three games, giving up 38.3 points per game. Fortunately for them, their defense shouldn’t be seriously tested by the Eagles, who are averaging 19.8 points per game.

The Chanticleers have done a great job on the offensive end, averaging 33.5 points per game, which is 43rd in the country. They are averaging 206.5 yards on the ground and 217 yards through the air. In their last game, the Chanticleers fell behind 17-6 at halftime and were forced to ditch their running game as they tried to catch up to Georgia State.

The team still managed to rush for 105 yards on 27 carries. Fred Payton led the way with 31 yards on seven carries, while Bryce Carpenter completed nine of 15 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 29 yards on four carries.

In order to win this game, the Chanticleers will have to play to their strength, which is running the ball, and will have enough room to do so against a defense that is giving up almost 200 rushing yards per game.

Eagles Going For Third Win In Five Games

The Eagles were able to snap their two-game losing streak with a win over South Alabama in their last game and will try to pick up their second consecutive win with a win over the Chanticleers on Saturday. However, if they want to pick up the win, they will need to do a better job on the defensive end.

The Eagles are giving up 32.4 points per game, but they played well in their last game, holding South Alabama to 20 points. With the team facing the Chanticleers, who are averaging 26.5 points per game, they will need to play as they did in their last game to give themselves a chance in this game.

Offensively, the Eagles have struggled this season and are averaging 19.8 points per game. Even though they aren’t scoring a lot of points, they have done well moving the ball on the ground, averaging 223.4 yards per game, which is 23rd in the country.

In their last game, the Eagles kept the ball on the ground and picked up 310 yards and two touchdowns. Shai Werts completed 9 of 17 passes for 78 yards. He also added 102 rushing yards on 20 carries.

They will be able to move the ball on the ground because the Chanticleers are giving up 160.2 rushing yards per game. But, they will have to figure out how to get into the endzone if they want to keep up with the Eagles on Saturday.

This is an interesting matchup between two similar teams. The Eagles have one of the best ground games in the country, averaging 223.4 rushing yards per game, and they are going up against a Coastal Carolina team that is giving up 160 rushing yards per game, which means they will have some room to run the ball. The Chanticleers also have a good ground game, averaging 206.5 rushing yards per game and are facing a defense that is giving up 199.8 rushing yards per game. However, that is where their similarities end. The Chanticleers have the advantage in this game because they are one of the best scoring teams in the country, averaging 33.5 points per game, going up against a defense that is giving up 32.4 points per game, while the Eagles are averaging 19.8 points per game. Even though the Chanticleers are a run-heavy team, they are also capable of beating opponents through the air, giving them another advantage over the Eagles, who rely mostly on their run game.

Prediction: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers +6.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

The Chanticleers are averaging 33.5 points per game and won’t have any problem going above their season average against one of the worst defenses in the country. The Eagles are averaging 19.8 points per game and should be able to go over their season average because the Chanticleers are giving up 26.5 points per game, which should take them over the total. The two teams have also played over the total in four of their five meetings, making the over the smart bet here.
