Saturday on the College gridiron and we will see the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers duke it out with the UMass Minutemen at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Massachusetts. The Chanticleers enter this contest off a 45-20 home loss to ULM, while the Minutemen are off a 58-42 loss to South Florida back on October 6th. These teams met last year and CC won at home by a score of 38-28.
Chanticleers Get Crushed By ULM
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers had a nice 3-1 start to their year, but they have now lost their last two games in a row after losing 45-20 at home to the ULM Warhawks. They fell behind 14-0 just 6:25 into the game and were never able to recover. The Chanticleers were outgained by just 27 yards and they rushed for 272 yards in the game, but they also committed eight penalties and they had three turnovers and forcing just one. It was the mistakes that did them in and know they hope to get back on track against a UMass team that is not that good at all.

Marcus Outlow had a solid game as he rumbled for 104 yards and a TD. He has 533 yards rushing on the year and has run for at least one TD in his last five games. He could have a big game against Umass’ 128th rushing defense. The Chanticleers do have the 24th ranked rushing offense in the nation. The defense for the Chanticleers has not been good at all and they allowed ULM to pile up 466 yards in the loss, including 242 on the ground. Their pass defense ranks 39th in the nation and that is key as they are about to face one of the better passing offenses in the nation. CC comes in ranked 53rd in the nation in scoring at 31.8 ppg and 111th in points allowed at 35.5 ppg.
UMass Has No Defense At All
The UMass Minutemen have gone just 1-5 in their six games against FBS foes this year and their defense has been horrible in those games as they have allowed 49.8 ppg in those games. They come in off a 58-42 loss to South Florida at home and it was the second game in a row that they allowed 58 points. This is a horrible defensive team and they will be facing a solid offensive team in this one. The Minutemen allowed 674 yards of total offense to the Bulls, including 365 yards on the ground. That run defense has been just horrible this year as they come in ranked 128th in the nation at defending the run and they will be facing the 15th ranked ground attack in the land.

The UMass offense has been very solid, especially their passing offense, which ranks 24th in the land. They will be going up against the strength of the CC defense as the Chanticleers rank 39th against the pass. UMass threw for 41 yards against the Bulls and they use a two-QB attack. Andrew Ford threw for 199 yards and two TDs in the loss, while Ross Comis threw for 172 yards and two TDs. Both will need to have a big game in this one. The Minutemen are 57th in total offense and 53rd in scoring at 31.3 ppg, while on defense they are 121st in yards allowed and 127th in points allowed, giving up 44.9 ppg.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game
- 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
UMass is just a horrible team, especially on defense and I see them struggling in this one. The running game is key and CC has one of the best in the nation, while UMass has one of the worst run defenses in the nation. Umass does have a strong passing game, but that plays right into Coastal Carolina’s hands as their pass defense is very solid. UMass has allowed 49.3 ppg against FBS foes and while the CC defense has struggled as well, they will make just enough stops to grab the win in this one.
Prediction: Coastal Carolina +3.5
Full-Game Total Pick
The punters can take the game off in this one as the offenses will nor be stopped. UMass’ last two games have put up 100 points and we may see the same in this one. UMass has allowed 58 points in each of their last two games and the Chanticleers have allowed 45 in each of their last two. These offenses will have some fun tonight. The Over is 9-1 in UMass’ last 10 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game and 8-2 in Coastal Carolina’s last 10 road games.
Prediction: Over 74.5
Half-Time Side Pick
I like the Chanticleers to win this game overall and it will start with a solid first half. The defense for the Minutemen has been very bad this year and they have allowed 25.9 ppg in the first half. The Chanticleers have allowed 21.3. ppg in the first half and their offense should have a field day against that UMass defense. Look for CC to have at least a seven-point lead at the break.
Prediction: Coastal Carolina +2
Half-Time Total Bet
As I stated in the full game over selection, the Punters can take the day off in this one. both offenses cans put up plenty of points, while the defenses are not that strong at all. UMass’ first halves have put up 45.7 ppg, while CC’s first halves have averaged 36.3 ppg. 24-17 CC at the break in this one.
Prediction: Over 37
