The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be trying to snap their six-game losing streak when they take on the Liberty Flames on Saturday afternoon.
Flames Going For Sixth Consecutive WinThe Flames managed to bounce back from their 0-2 start to the season and have reeled off five consecutive wins under head coach Hugh Freeze, who has done a remarkable job turning the program around so quickly. They will try to extend their winning streak to six games and pick up their first win over a Power 5 team this season when they play the Scarlet Knights on Saturday.
Liberty has done well on the offensive end this season, averaging 34.5 points per game. The team has done well throwing the ball and is averaging 275.9 passing yards per game, which is 32nd in the country. They are led by Stephen Calvert, who has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 1,920 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The Flames have also played well on the defensive end and are holding opponents to 24.3 points per game. However, they have struggled against the pass and are giving up 240.1 passing yards per game. In their last game, they gave up 456 passing yards and five touchdowns but managed to hold off Maine’s rally and pick up the win.
Even though the Scarlet Knights haven’t played well offensively, the Flames will have to do a better job than they did in their last game to avoid getting torched by the Scarlet Knights and giving them a chance to end their losing streak.
Scarlet Knights Need To Step Up DefensivelyThe Scarlet Knights have dropped their last six games because they have failed to keep teams out of the end zone and have given up over 30 points in each of their losses so far. With the team trying to snap their six-game losing streak, they will have to play significantly better on the defensive end to give themselves a chance.

While the team’s defense carries a lot of responsibility for their current record, the offense also has to take its share of the blame with the team averaging 19.5 points per game. The Scarlet Knights have been unable to move the ball through the air and on the ground and average 255.6 total yards per game.
The Scarlet Knights should be able to move the ball through the air against the Flames, who are giving up 240.1 passing yards per game and gave up 456 passing yards in their last game. If they can throw the ball successfully, they will cause problems for Liberty’s defense, and open up their running game.
In their last game, Johnny Langan completed nine of 19 passes for 48 yards and three interceptions. The team will need a better effort from him if they want to snap their losing streak on Saturday.
