Liberty Flames vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Where: HighPoint.com Stadium, Piscataway, NJ

When: Saturday, October 26, 12:00 PM. ET.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be trying to snap their six-game losing streak when they take on the Liberty Flames on Saturday afternoon.

Flames Going For Sixth Consecutive Win

The Flames managed to bounce back from their 0-2 start to the season and have reeled off five consecutive wins under head coach Hugh Freeze, who has done a remarkable job turning the program around so quickly. They will try to extend their winning streak to six games and pick up their first win over a Power 5 team this season when they play the Scarlet Knights on Saturday.

Liberty has done well on the offensive end this season, averaging 34.5 points per game. The team has done well throwing the ball and is averaging 275.9 passing yards per game, which is 32nd in the country. They are led by Stephen Calvert, who has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 1,920 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The Flames have also played well on the defensive end and are holding opponents to 24.3 points per game. However, they have struggled against the pass and are giving up 240.1 passing yards per game. In their last game, they gave up 456 passing yards and five touchdowns but managed to hold off Maine’s rally and pick up the win.

Even though the Scarlet Knights haven’t played well offensively, the Flames will have to do a better job than they did in their last game to avoid getting torched by the Scarlet Knights and giving them a chance to end their losing streak.

Scarlet Knights Need To Step Up Defensively

The Scarlet Knights have dropped their last six games because they have failed to keep teams out of the end zone and have given up over 30 points in each of their losses so far. With the team trying to snap their six-game losing streak, they will have to play significantly better on the defensive end to give themselves a chance.

While the team’s defense carries a lot of responsibility for their current record, the offense also has to take its share of the blame with the team averaging 19.5 points per game. The Scarlet Knights have been unable to move the ball through the air and on the ground and average 255.6 total yards per game.

The Scarlet Knights should be able to move the ball through the air against the Flames, who are giving up 240.1 passing yards per game and gave up 456 passing yards in their last game. If they can throw the ball successfully, they will cause problems for Liberty’s defense, and open up their running game.

In their last game, Johnny Langan completed nine of 19 passes for 48 yards and three interceptions. The team will need a better effort from him if they want to snap their losing streak on Saturday.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Scarlet Knights have played poorly so far because they are one of the worst offensive teams in the country. Since they scored 48 points in their season-opener, they have managed only 30 total points in their last six games, and are giving up 36.9 points per game. The Flames have won five consecutive games and are playing well on the offensive end, averaging 34.5 points per game. They will have no problem moving the ball against the Scarlet Knights, who have struggled against the run and pass and should also be able to keep Rutgers’ inept offense, which is averaging 255.6 total yards per game, in check. With the Scarlet Knights scoring 14 total points in their last four games, expect the Flames to win this game by at least 10 points.

Prediction: Liberty Flames -7.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Scarlet Knights are averaging 19.5 points per game while the Flames are averaging 34.5 points per game. With the Scarlet Knights having one of the worst defenses in the country, the Flames should be able to score more than their season average. However, the Scarlet Knights are averaging 3.5 points per game in their last four games and will likely score at or below that average against the Flames, making the under the smart bet here.

Prediction: Under 45.5

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Flames will cover the first half total in this game because they have outplayed the Scarlet Knights in the first half of their last three games, averaging 17.3 points per game while the Scarlet Knights average 2.3 points per game.

Prediction: Liberty Flames -3.5

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Scarlet Knights and Flames are averaging 19.6 combined points per game in the first half of their last three games and will stay under the first-half total in this game if they maintain their current scoring pace.

Prediction: Under 23
