Hilltoppers Going For Fifth Consecutive WinThe Hilltoppers have played well this season and currently sit on top of the Conference USA East standings. They will be trying to increase their division lead with a win over the Thundering Herd, which will give them their fifth win in a row and sixth win in their last seven games.
Iron sharpens iron, and OL Coach @WKUMikeGoff knows that: “They have some good looking people on defense, but at the end of day we block some of the best defensive linemen each and every day in practice.” 👀⬇️ #GoTops— WKU Football (@WKUFootball) October 23, 2019

Western Kentucky has played well on the defensive end this season, holding opponents to 17.9 points per game. They have played particularly well over their last three games and held their opponents to 8.33 points per game. Even though the Thundering Herd has the 24th best ground game in the country, the Hilltoppers, who are giving up 110.3 rushing yards per game, should be able to keep the Thundering Herd’s running backs in check.
Offensively, the Hilltoppers are averaging 22.3 points per game, led by the 73rd-ranked passing game in the country. They will be able to move the ball through the air against the Thundering Herd, who are giving up 248.4 passing yards per game.
In their last game, Ty Storey completed 21 of 30 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns, to lead the team past the Charlotte 49ers. The team will need another solid performance from him to snap their losing streak against the Thundering Herd.
Thundering Herd Going For Third Consecutive Win Over HilltoppersThe Thundering Herd have had Western Kentucky’s number over the last two seasons and will try to pick up their third straight win over the rivals when they play on Saturday. However, the Hilltoppers are playing well at the moment and have a very good defense, which makes them a tougher challenge this year.
Marshall has played well on the offensive end, averaging 27.4 points per game. The team’s ground game has been the key to their success with the team averaging 216.9 rushing yards per game. Brenden Knox leads the way for the Thundering Herd with 719 yards and five touchdowns, but he will face some resistance from the Hilltoppers, who are giving up 110.3 rushing yards per game.
Defensively, the Thundering Herd haven’t played very well this season and are giving up 26.6 points per game. They struggled against the pass in their last game and gave up 362 yards to Florida Atlantic, who scored 31 points in the loss. They will need to do a better job against the pass if they want to pick up the win on Saturday.
