Saturday afternoon college football action and a pair of teams from the Big 10 Conference will square off as the Purdue Boilermakers grapple with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. This contest has a start time of 3:30 pm and will take place at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Boilermakers won this game at home last year by a score of 31-17.
Purdue enters this game off a 38-36 home win over Iowa to move to 4-2 in the Big 10, while the Golden Gophers are off a 5-31 loss to9 the Illini on the road, which drops them to 1-5 in league play.
Purdue Looks To Stay Alive In Big 10 West Race
The Purdue Boilermakers have been one of the surprise teams in the Big 10 this year. They made their mark a few weeks ago with a 29 point rout of Ohio State at home, and last week they took out Iowa at home by a score of 38-36. The Boilermakers rea now at 4-23 in the league and just one game out of first in the Big-10 West. Purdue started the year at 0-3, but they have since won five of their last six games. The offense has been vital of late as they have scored 38 points or more in their previous four wins, but just 13 points in their last loss. Purdue rolled up 434 yards in their win over Iowa, which has the 2nd best defense in the league.

David Blough had a solid game as he threw for 333 yards with four TDs and two INTs. On the year, he has thrown for 2683 yards with 17 TDs and seven INTs, while hitting 65.9% of his passes. The Boilermakers are 7th in the nation in passing, and the Golden Gophers are 76th against the pass. Blugh could have a big game. Purdue checks in at 14th in the country in total offense 35th in scoring, putting up 33.4 ppg. The Weakness of the Purdue defense is their pass defense, which ranks 128th in the nation and they could struggle against a Minnesota team that is 67th in passing. Purdue is 94th in total defense and 48th in points allowed at 24.2%.
Golden Gophers Get Routed By The Illini
The Minnesota Golden Gophers started their year at 3-0, but since then it has been mostly downhill. Minnesota comes into this game off a crushing 55-31 loss to Illinois on the road. Minnesota has now gone 1-5 after their 3-0 start. The defense has been horrible in league play as they have allowed 43.2 ppg in their last six games after allowing a total of 27 points during their 3-0 start. That is not good news as they are about to take on a hot offense that is 7th in the nation in passing. Minnesota is slightly below average against the pass. Their real weakness is their run defense, which allowed 430 yards to the Illini last week. They will not be facing a good ground attack in this one, and if they can stop the pass, then they have shot at pulling off the upset.

The offense has been slightly below average overall this year, but it has been a bit better of late. The Golden Gophers put up 438 yards and 31` points on the Illini this past weekend and have now averaged 464.7 ypg and a 32.3 pg over their last three games. They will need their offense to step up here as it is unlikely the defense will get many stops. Purdue has one of the worst pass defenses in the nation, so it will be up to QB Tanner Morgan to lead the attack. He has played in just five games and has thrown for 809 yards with five TDs and three INTs in those games. He could have a big game as he has thrown for 560 yards with five TDs and one INT in his last two starts.
- 12-3-3 ATS in their last 18 games following an ATS loss
- 23-9-2 ATS in their last 34 games in November
- The road team is 4-9-1 ATS the last 14 games in this series
- The Over is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings in Minnesota
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Minnesota has not been playing good ball of late, but I feel that they can keep this one close. Purdue has been strong of late and is still in the race for the Big 10 West Title, but we note that they have played Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa in the last three weeks and they have Wisconson on deck. This is a flat spot for them, plus Tanner Morgan has played well the last two week and the Boilermakers have one of the worst pass defenses in the league. Take the Golden Gophers in this one.
Prediction: Minnesota +12.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This one should be a high-scoring affair. The Golden Gophers have been atrocious on defense of late, and the Boilermakers have one of the best passing offenses in the nation. Minnesota’s Tanner Morgan has thrown for 560 yards the last two weeks and will now take a shot at a horrible pass defense. Minnesota’s offense has put up 464.7 ypg in their previous four games and will have success against this Purdue defense. Take the Over in this one.
Prediction: Over 58
Half-Time Side Pick
I feel that this will be a flat spot for the Boilermakers, who have played a tough schedule of late and they have Wisconsin on deck. Purdue will come out sluggish and that will allow Minnesota to keep it close in the first half, or even take a lead into the locker room.
Prediction: Minnesota +6.5
Half-Time Total Bet
Neither defense is great, especially Minnesota’s and a couple of hot offenses should be able to take advantage of that. Minnesota has averaged 16.7 ppg in the first half and Purdue has averaged 18.4 ppg in the first half.
Prediction: Over 30.5
