Check out our college football “Fab Five” in this short video:
College Football action within Conference U.S.A on Saturday evening and we will see the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers rumble with the Florida Atlantic Owls at FAU Football Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida. The Hilltoppers are off a 29-10 road loss to Middle Tennessee to fall to 0-5 in league play, while the Owls are off a 49-14 road win over FIU, which gives them a 2-3 record within Conference U.S.A. The Owls won this game on the road last year by a score of 42-28.
Losing Skid At Five In A Row
It has been a horrible season for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers so far as they come in a 1-8 overall, including 0-5 in league play. All five league losses have come in their last five games. They enter this game off a 29-10 road loss to the Blue Raiders and have now been outscored 36.0-18.8 ppg in their previous four games. The Hilltoppers are not playing good ball, but would still like to find some positives in their last few games. The offense has been an issue for this team all season so far as they are 125th in the nation in scoring, putting up just 18.7 ppg. WKU has 379 yards against MTSU, which is slightly better than their seasonal average of 366.8 ypg.

Drew Eckels had a bad game as he threw for just 195 yards with no TDs on 13/32 passing, while Steven Duncan hit 3/14 for 61 yards with a TD and an INT. Both have had time this year and will be called upon in this one. WKU is 55th in the nation in passing, while the Owls are 89th against the pass. The WKU defense has been below average all year, and they will have to be above average in this one as the Owls have a solid offense. The Hilltoppers come in ranked 80th in total yards allowed 64th against the pass, 88th against the run and 84th in points allowed, giving up 29.9 ppg.
Owls Pound Golden Panthers On The Road
The Florida Atlantic Owls have not had a great year themselves as they come in at 4-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. The difference for them is that they still have a shot at bowl eligibility and a win over the lowly Hilltoppers would help them out greatly. After this one, they have a tough road game against North Texas, but then finish the year at home against Charlotte. First things first. They must avoid the upset in this one. FAU enters this game off a 49-14 road win over FIU, and they outgained them 596-330 in the contest. The Owls needed that pick me up from their offense after totaling just 20 points in their last two games combined.

Devin Singletary is one of the best backs in the nation, and he ran for 184 yards and three TDs against the Golden Panthers. Singletary is not up to 1021 yards rushing, which is 9th in the nation, while his 18 TDs is tied for tops in the land. He will look for another big game in this one, especially after rushing for 244 yards and four TDs against the Hilltoppers a year ago. Kerrith Whyte Jr. also had a big game against FIU last week as he ran for 165 yards and a TD. The Owls are 13th in the nation in rushing, while WKU is 88th against the run. The Owls ran for 439 yards against FIU and will look for a similar showing in this one. FAU comes in at 54th in scoring at 30.8 ppg and 98th in points allowed at 33.1 ppg.
- 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game
- 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This is a big number for the Owls to cover, but I feel that they can get the job done. FAU has a lot to play for, especially when it comes to bowl eligibility and they will not let the lowly Hilltoppers stand in their way. WKU has no offense and they struggle to stop the run, which is not good news as they are going up against Devin Singletary, who trounced them for 244 yards and four TDs last year. Take FAU in a complete rout in this one.
Prediction: Florida Atlantic -20
Full-Game Total Pick
This has the feel of a high scoring game. The Hilltoppers have not been good on offense, but they should score enough for this game to go over the Total. The WKU defense has not been good at all of late, and Singletary and company will put up a big number on them in this one. The Over is 13-4 in WKU’s last 17 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and 8-2 in FAU’s last ten games in November.
Prediction: Over 56
Half-Time Side Pick
The Owls have not had the season they were hoping for so far, but they should have a good easy win in this one and it starts with a strong first half. WKU has nothing left to play for and will fold early on in this game.
Prediction: FAU -11
Half-Time Total Bet
The Owls will look to put this game out of reach early and they may get the Over in the first period on their own, Still, the WKU offense should contribute something in the first half of this one. Look for at least 17 points to be scored in the first quarter of this one.
Prediction: Over 13.5 (First Quarter)
