Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-8, 1-5 AAC) vs. South Florida (8-1, 5-1 AAC)
NCAA Football: Thursday, November 16th, 7:30 pm EST
Line: USF -23
The Golden Hurricane of Tulsa head to South Florida to take on the Bulls on Thursday night. This is a story of two teams going in different directions as they once proud Golden Hurricane are suffering through their worst season in years, while the Bulls are 8-1 and 5-1 in the conference. Their only loss was when Houston came back on them in the second half to beat them 28-24 three weeks ago.
Tulsa has only two wins on the year, and only one win in the AAC. That was, ironically, against the same team that gave South Florida their only loss, Houston. The Golden Hurricane beat the Cougars 45-17 in what is one of the biggest outliers of this college football season. It’s far and away the best game they have played this year and there’s nothing really close.
Tulsa loses again
Tulsa lost again on Saturday, their third loss in a row and their seventh loss in eight games. This time they lost to #23 ranked Memphis, 41-14. They still only have two wins this year and it likely looks like it will end that way, with games against South Florida and Temple to close the year. Their lone wins area against Louisiana-Lafayette and the anomaly versus Houston.
The most recent loss was pretty one sided, as so many have been this year. At halftime, it looked like we might have a game, with Tulsa only trailing 21-14, but the Tigers outscored them 20-0 in the second half to make the game a blowout. Quarterback Luke Skipper threw for only 157 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.
South Florida takes care of business two weeks ago
South Florida took care of business last Saturday, defeating UConn 37-20. They know come off a bye which just favors them more versus the undermanned Golden Hurricane. Quarterback Quentin Flowers had a big game for the Bulls, throwing for 385 yards and three touchdowns. He did have one interception, but that doesn’t take away from the big game he had.
They also rushed for 217 yards as a team, with Flowers once again leading them there. He carried the ball 16 times for 131 yards for an average of 8.2 yards per carry. The defense was solid as well, giving up only 176 yards through the air and a little over 100 on the ground. And now, they fake another feeble offense in Tulsa.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are:
- 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games
- 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games when after accumulating less than 170 yards passing their previous game
The South Florida Bulls are:
- 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 following a bye week
- 7-1 ATS in their last 8 versus teams with a losing record
- 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in November
The Golden Hurricane may have a tough time scoring 10 points this week. And I think South Florida has enough firepower to cover the 23 point lead. Let’s take the home team.
Pick: South Florida
South Florida has a great defense and I think Tulsa will have a tough time scoring. South Florida will put up points, but not enough to make the game go over.
