College Football action on Saturday afternoon and a pair of teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference will square off as the 19th ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons grapple with the 5th ranked Clemson Tigers. This contest has a start time of 3:30 pm ET and will take place at Clemson Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina.

The Demon Deacons Are Looking For Revenge

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been a pleasant surprise in the ACC this year as they come in at 3-2 in league play and 7-2 overall. It will be hard for them to keep it going in this one as they are facing a team they lost by 60 points to a year ago. Still, this game is about covering the spread. Wake fell behind in that game 7-0 just 6;25 in and they were never able to recover. Wake was outgained 698 to 249 in the contest and they allowed the Tigers to pile up 471 yards on the ground. The Deacons must stop the run here but they are 72nd in the nation against the run while Clemson is 8th in the nation in rushing.

Wake enters this game off a 36-17 loss to Virginia Tech and they were outgained 470-301 in the contest. The run defense struggled as they allowed the Hokies to rumble for 228 yards in this contest. They also allowed Hendon Hooker to pass for 242 yards on 15 of 23 passing. Wake has struggled against the pass this year as they are 91st in that department, allowing 243.8 ypg through the air so far.

The offense struggled in the contest as well and that is a bit shocking as the Hokies have not been great on defense and the Demon Deacons have had very little trouble on the offensive side of the ball. Wake Forest ranks 13th in the nation in total offense, 11th in passing, 52nd in rushing and 25th in scoring, putting up 35.7 ppg. Jamie Newman has had a solid season as he has thrown for 2297 yards with 22 TDs and just seven INTs on the year. he will have a tough time going up against the Nation's 2nd ranked pass defense in this one. Making matters worse for Newman in this one is the fact that he will be without leading receiver Sage Surratt, who has been lost for the season. He is 5th in the nation with 1001 receiving yards. They could use a bit more help from their ground game but that will not be easy as the Tigers are 23rd in the nation against the run. Can the Demon Deacons put up enough points in this one to keep it close? Keep reading to find out.

The Clemson Tigers Are Pissed

The Clemson Tigers have been getting no respect at all this year. They keep winning and yet keep sliding down the polls a bit. They were ranked number one at one point but are currently ranked 5th in the nation, despite the fact that they are 10-0 on the year. The Tigers struggled in beating North Carolina on the road a few weeks ago and the voters may be holding that against them. Well, the Tigers are pissed and they have been showing that the last few weeks. Since that game, the Tigers have outscored their last five foes by 41.6 ppg. The closest game over that stretch was 31 points. The Tigers have been even more impressive in their last three games as they have outgained their foes 641.7 - 241.0 ypg and have outscored them 57.7 to 10.3 ppg in those games. Have I stated that the Tigers are pissed?

The Tigers took some of their frustrations out last week against NC State on the road as they beat them by a score of 55-10. It was the 3rd game in a row that the Tigers have scored at least 55 points. Trevor Lawrence had a strong game as he threw for 276 yards and three TDs with no INTs. on the year, he has thrown for 2303 yards with 23 TDs and eight INTs. The Tigers are 32nd in the nation in passing. The running game has been strong as they are 8th in that department and will be facing a struggling run defense in this one. Travis Etienne had 112 yards and two TDs last week against the Wolfpack and has now rushed for 1214 yards and 13 TDs on the year. Etienne is 5th in the nation in rushing and he had 167 yards and three TDs in last year's win over the Demon Deacons.

The Tigers are 2nd in the nation in total offense at 545.8 ypg and 5th in scoring at 45.3 ppg. They are not all about offense as the defense has been very strong as usual. The Tigers rank 4th in total yards allowed 2nd against the pass, 2nd against the run and 3rd in points allowed, giving up just 11.5 ppg. Last week, they allowed NC State to hit less than 50% of their passes for 166 yards. Even though the Demon Deacons struggled on offense last week, they are still 11th in the nation in passing and that will give this Clemson defense a test. Can the Tigers continue to roll with another dominating win? Keep reading to find out.

Insiders Status:

The Demon Deacons are an improved team this year, but they did lose this game by 60 points last year and I don't feel they have closed the gap all that much on Clemson. The Tigers are getting very little respect in the polls and they have taken their frustrations out on their opponents of late. Clemson has outgained their opponents by 400.7 ypg and has outscored them 47.4 ppg over their last three games. The Demon Deacons were slowed down on offense last week and will be facing a far better defense in this one. The Wake defense has not been very good, especially against the run and the Tigers have one of the best ground attacks in the nation. Clemson will get their ground game going and that will allow Trevor Lawrence to have a big game throwing the ball. The Tigers are pissed and they will continue to take it out on their opponents. Wake is a wounded team without one of the best receivers in the nation and the Tigers will take advantage by winning this one by at least 40 points.

Prediction: Clemson -34.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

I have to go with the Over in this one, especially since Clemson has scored at least 55 points in each of their last three games and they put up 63 points on Wake last year.  Clemson is upset and they will continue to pile on the points, so hitting 55 is s distinct possibility in this one, especially against a defense that has struggled this year. the Tigers have not struggled on defense but the Demon Deacons are 11th in the nation in passing and 25th in scoring, putting up 35.7 ppg so far. The Over is 10-3 in Wake Forest's last 13 games following an ATS loss and 9-3-1 in Clemson's last 13 games in November. Wake Forest will not score enough to cover the spread but they will contribute enough for the game to go Over the total.

Prediction: Over 59.5
