Check out our best plays in this week’s Fab Five:
Saturday afternoon on the college gridiron and a pair of teams from the Mountain West Conference will mix it up as the red-hot, and 20th ranked Utah State Aggies invade Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado to rumble with the Colorado State Rams. The Rams won this game on the road last year by a score of 27-14.
The Aggies moved to 6-0 within the MWC after destroying San Jose State by a score of 62-24, while the Rams are off a 49-10 loss at Nevada to fall to 2-4 in league play.
Aggies Rout Another Foe
The Utah State Aggies have been ou quite a role as they have won their last nine games in a row and have outscored their last three teams by 42, 41, and 42 points. The Aggies have been getting stronger as the season goes on and they are not letting up on the games. Last week they did play a lackluster first quarter against the San Jose State Spartans, and the game was tied 10-10 early in the second, but the Aggies woke up to outscore them 52-14 the rest of the way. The Aggies must now guard against a look-ahead game against Boise State, who they play next week and that game will be for all the marbles in the Mountain Division.

Utah State has been unstoppable on offense, especially of late as they have averaged 59.7 ppg over their last three games. They are 10th in the nation in total offense and 1st in scoring, putting up 51.3 ppg on the year. They have a shot at keeping that offense rolling against a less than stellar CSU defense. Last week, the Aggies rolled up 806 yards of total offense against the Spartans, including 510 through the air. Jordan Love had a huge game as he threw for 491 yards and five TDs with no INTs. The sophomore QB has had a great year as he has thrown for 2676 yards with 24 TDs and just four INTs, while also rushing for 59 yards and six TDS. He will be the one the Rams need to stop. Utah State can also play defense as they come in ranked 44th in yards allowed and 31st in points allowed, giving up 21.9 ppg.
Rams Look To Break A Three-Game Slide
The Colorado State Rams have not had a great year, and it isn’t likely to get a whole lot better in this one as they are facing one of the hottest teams in the entire country. CSU comes in having lost their last three games in a row, and they have allowed 46.3 ppg over that stretch. Now they have to face the best scoring offense in the nation. This one could get ugly for them. The Rams come in ranked 114th in total yards allowed 98th against the pass, 107th against the run and 119th in points allowed, giving up 38.5 ppg. Colorado State will have no shot of pulling the upset if they can slow the Utah State offense down.

The Rams enter this game off a 49-10 blowout loss to Nevada on the road, and they were outgained 639-260 in the game. Ouch. The Rams will have even less of a chance to pull the upset if their offense can’t keep pace with the Aggies’ high-powered attack. Collin Hill threw for just 186 yards with a TD and an INT in the game. K.J. Carta-Samuels could be back under center for this one, and he has thrown for 2172 yards with 18 TDs and eight INTs on the year. The Colorado State offense is 19th in passing this year, but they are also just 108th in scoring, putting up 23.1 ppg. They will need a lot more offense than that to win this one.
Colorado State is:
- 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points.
- 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games overall
Utah State is:
- 10-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record
- 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I know that the Aggies have a much bigger game than this one on deck, but I will look for them to completely rout the Rams. CSU has no defense at all right now and they allowed 536 yards to Nevada last week. Now they have to take on the best offense in the nation and one that piled up 804 yards of total offense last week. The Rams also have revenge on their minds for a 27-14 home loss to the Rams last year. This one will not be pretty for a Rams team that has nothing to play for.
Prediction: Utah State -28
Full-Game Total Pick
The Aggies have hung up 59.7 ppg over their last three games and will now face a defense that is one of the worst in the country. The Rams have allowed 46.3 ppg over their last three games, and they have no shot at slowing this offense down. The Aggies have allowed 21.3 pg on the year, and the Rams should be able to hit that mark at least. The Over is 9-1 in Utah State’s last ten games following a straight up win of more than 20 points and 24-8 in their previous 32 conference games. That seals the deal for me.
Prediction: Over 68
Half-Time Side Pick
The Aggies have been rolling this year and they have been just crushing teams. They will not let their foot off the gas in this one against a struggling Colorado State team and should have a lead of at least 21 at the break.
Prediction: Utah State 17.5
Half-Time Total Bet
The Utah State offense has been unstoppable of late and CSU will not be able to slow them down early or late. The Utah State defense is not perfect and the Rams will score some, especially early on. Aggies lead 31-10 at the break.
Prediction: Over 35.5
