Check out our best plays in this week’s Fab Five:
College Football action on Saturday afternoon a pair of teams from Conference U.S.A. will square off as the UTSA Roadrunners duke it out with the Marshall Thundering Herd at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia. The Roadrunners enter this game off a 45-7 home loss to FIU, while Marshall checks in off a 30-13 home win over Charlotte. UTSA won this game at home last year by a score of 9-7.
Roadrunners Get Mauled By Golden Panthers
The UTSA Roadrunners have not had a good season at all as they come in at 3-7 on the year. They have lost their last four games in a row and have been outscored 97-10 in their last two. Yikes. UTSA is a team that already is looking to next year to hopefully get back on track. They have nothing left in the tank at the moment, but the games must go on. UTSA enters this game off a 45-7 home loss to Florida International, and they were outgained 455-255 in the contest. The Roadrunners were also outgained 668-220 in their 52-3 loss at UAB in their previous game.

They enter this contest ranked dead last in the nation in total offense, 119th in passing, 127th in rushing and 129th in scoring, putting up a mere 14.9 ppg. Some teams put up that many points minutes after they step off the bus. The offense is the main reason they have struggled this year, and now that bad offense is hurting the defense as they have been touched for 1123 yards the last two weeks. UTSA comes in ranked 87th in total defense, 106th against the pass, 63rd against the run and 99th in points allowed at 32.7 ppg. QB Cordale Grundy (989 Yards, 5 TDs, 3INTs) is questionable for this one, and if he can’t go, then it will be Jordan Weeks (236 Yards, 1 TD, No INTs) that takes over.
The Herd Have Gained Bowl Eligibility
The Marshall Thundering Herd come into this game off a 30-13 home win over Charlotte last week, and that gave them the six wins they needed to make it to a bowl game. This will be their 5th time in the previous six years that they will be playing in a bowl game. We also note that Marshall is money in bowl games as they have won their last six. Marshal had a mediocre start, but they have been playing better of late as they have won three of their last four games and could be on their way to another win in this one. Marshall outgained the Chanticleers by a count of 325-185 in their previous game, and that defense has been the staple of this team all year so far. That is not good news for the worst offense in the nation.

Marshall enters this game ranked 27th in the nation in yards allowed 74th against the pass 14th against the run and 32nd in points allowed, giving up 22 ppg on the year. The offense has been below average all year. They had just 325 yards against Coastal Carolina. Isaiah Green hit 15/25 passes for 178 yards with one TD and no INTs. He has thrown for 1455 yards with 10 TDs and seven ints on the year and will be taking on a struggling defense. Brenden Knox had a solid game as he ran for 122 yards and a TD in his first game of the year. Tyler King (655 yards) leads the team in rushing and is questionable for this one. The Herd comes in ranked 98th in total offense and 71st in scoring, putting up 28.7 ppg.
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game
- The Under is 11-5 in their last 16 vs. a team with a losing record
- 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games on fieldturf.
- 3-14-1 ATS in their last 18 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This is a big spread with a low OU line. Can the Thundering Herd cover the line against one of the worst teams in the nation? I feel that they can. UTSA has been horrible in their last two games as they have been outscored 97-10 in those games. Yikes. The Roadrunners have one of the worst offenses in the nation and Marshall has played good defense this year, ranking 27th in the nation in yards allowed and 32nd in points allowed, giving up just 22.0 ppg. UTSA has averaged 5.0 ppg in their last two games and they may not even get there in this one. Take the Herd to rumble over the Roadrunners.
Prediction: Marshall -27
Full-Game Total Pick
UTSA will not contribute much scoring in this games, so the question is, will Marshall put up enough for this game to go over the total? I don’t think they will. Marshall is not an explosive team on offense and they have averaged just 28.7 ppg on the year. The Roadrunners have struggled on defense of late, but still, I would not expect to see more than 34 points from the Herd in this one. The Under is 10-3 in UTSA’s last 13 conference games and 17-8 in Marshall’s last 25 games following an ATS win.
Prediction: Under 44.5
