Auburn hosts Louisiana Monroe in a late non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers have put themselves in playoff position after demolishing top-ranked Georgia. The Warhawks were on a bye week after defeating Appalachian State to end a three-game losing skid. Auburn took home a 58-7 victory over ULM last season.
Monroe holds off App State in thrilling conclusion
Louisiana Monroe started off hot with a 21-3 lead over Appalachian State, but they gave up a halftime lead when their opponent scored first in the third quarter. It then became a back-and-forth affair with a wild finish. ULM took a touchdown lead with 3:17 to go, and the Mountaineers found a way to tie things up with just 53 seconds remaining. However, the Warhawks responded just 30 seconds later with a long touchdown pass to finish off the game and avoid overtime.
Wide receiver RJ Turner had the final touchdown of the game and two overall on a great day. He finished with 134 receiving yards on six catches. Turner has 523 yards and four touchdowns on 30 catches this season, and this was the first game where he reached over the century mark. Quarterback Caleb Evans had a solid outing completing 24-of-32 passes for 356 yards, three touchdowns, and one pick.
Tigers blitz Bulldogs to hoist themselves into playoff position
Auburn had a brutal three-game SEC road trip, but they only had a 27-23 loss to LSU in the stretch while taking down Arkansas and Texas A&M. While questions still remained of how good this team really was, they now control their own destiny after taking down Georgia 40-17 in a stunning upset. The Bulldogs can never seem to complete an undefeated season, but the blowout aspect was the shocking part of the Tigers victory.
Auburn thrived thanks to their defense. They held Georgia to just 230 total yards, 13 first downs, 46 rushing yards, and 3-for-14 on third down conversions. The Tigers also had an efficient offense. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham completed 16-of-23 passes for 214 yards and three scores. It was an evenly distributed show with three different players getting 43 or more yards and a touchdown each. Running back Kerryon Johnson was the player of the game with 167 yards on 32 carries. He’s now eclipsed over 1,000 yards and has 15 TDs this season.
Louisiana Monroe is:
- 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game
- 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in Auburn
- 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games against teams with a losing record
- 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 against Sun Belt opponents
Louisiana Monroe’s offense is nothing to scoff at as they’ve made this team competitive in the Sun Belt. However, the defense has been atrocious and they will be facing an opponent that’s a much higher caliber than most of their schedule. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see this become a huge blowout.
Pick: Auburn -35.5
With the Warhawks’ defense being relatively bad this season, the Tigers could reach the over by themselves. It will only be icing on the cake if the Warhawks were able to add a significant amount of points as well.
Louisiana Monroe is:
- 7-0 on the Over in their last 7 games after a SU win
- 13-3 on the Over in their last 16 road games
- 8-1 on the Over in their last 9 games against teams with a losing record
- 7-0 on the Over in their last 7 games overall
