Utah State Aggies (8-3) vs. New Mexico Lobos (3-8)

The Utah State Aggies will be looking to get back into the win column when they take on the New Mexico Lobos on Friday evening. Utah State saw their five-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to Wyoming last week, 44-17. The Aggies are 4-1 ATS in their last five games. New Mexico was blanked by Boise State, 37-0. The Lobos are 1-9 ATS in their last 10.

Utah State is favored by 15.5-points. The Aggies are winners of four straight against the Lobos and are 5-2 in the last seven meetings.

Cowboys Surge Past Aggies

Utah State and Wyoming were tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cowboys took over from there, scoring 30 of the final 33 points on their way to a 44-17 victory. Calvin Tyler rushed for 109 yards. Logan Bonner completed 19 of 40 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Utah State is averaging 31.9 points per game, 43rd in the country, and they are 15th in total yards per game at 460.5. The Aggies are led by Bonner, who has thrown for 2930 yards and 27 touchdowns, completing 59.9% of his passes. His leading target has been Deven Thompkins, who has 82 catches for 1508 yards and nine scores. That is double the number of catches of the second-highest person on the team.

The Aggies have a solid ground game led by Tyler, who has rushed for 686 yards and five scores. Elelyon Noa has 517 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Utah State is allowing 27.8 points per game, 80th overall. The team has recorded 23 sacks, 11 interceptions, and six fumble recoveries. Nick Heninger leads the team with five sacks. Justin Rice has been an absolute beast, leading the team with 95 tackles and is tied for the team lead interceptions with three.

Lobos Shutout by Broncos

The Boise State defense held New Mexico to just 102 yards of total offense in a 37-0 victory. The New Mexico quarterbacks completed just two of seven passes for 18 yards. Aaron Dumas had 36 yards rushing to lead the team.

Insiders Status:

Large spreads are usually a cause for concern for me. 15.5 points is a lot to cover, but this New Mexico offense is just terrible and, truth be told, the defense is not a whole lot better. In fact, neither team has played very well defensively, but Utah State has quite an offense. They not only have an outstanding rushing attack but a solid quarterback who is putting up good numbers. They should easily be able to score 35-40 points in this game while allowing New Mexico no more than 20. That easily helps to cover the spread.

The Aggies are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings between these teams. Utah State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games. New Mexico is 0-5 ATS in their last five games at home.

Prediction: Take the Utah State Aggies at -15.5 (-110)

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Oddsmakers must believe that New Mexico will have virtually no success moving the ball at all. It is easily understandable following their crushing defeat against Boise State, but this is still a reasonable offense that can put up 15-20 points on most occasions.

New Mexico scored 27+ points in the first two games of the season, but has been held under 10 in every game since. These teams have gone under in three of the last five meetings and Utah State has gone under in five of the last seven games where they were the road favorite. New Mexico has gone under in five of their last six games.

Take Utah State to win, 38-10.

Prediction: Under 50.5 (-110)
