It has been a long season for the Boston College Eagles, but they will try to end on a high note when they host ACC foe the Syracuse Orange on Saturday. The Eagles are a dreadful 3-8 on the season and 2-5 in the ACC while the Orange are 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Orange beat the Eagles 21-6 last season and the two teams have split their last four matchups head-to-head. The Orange are favored in this one by 10.5 points. Can the Eagles pull off the upset?

The Orange drop their 5th straight

It seems like a distant memory now, but at one time the Syracuse Orange were 6-0. That run included ACC wins over Louisville, Virginia, and NC State, and they also beat the Big Ten's Purdue and a scrappy UConn team that beat Boston College. But then the wheels came off. The Orange have lost 5 in a row since then, including losses to Clemson, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Florida State, and Wake Forest, who beat them last week by the score of 45-35. Syracuse was a 9.5 point underdog. So now Syracuse sits at 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the ACC, second to last in the Atlantic Division just ahead of BC.

The Orange scored a couple of garbage touchdowns to make this final look respectable, but in reality, it wasn't very close. Ultimately, they gave up 543 total yards to Wake Forest and that just won't get it done. The Eagles did manage 477 yards themselves, but a lot of that was in garbage time. The Demon Deacons had 36 to 21 first down edge. Garrett Schrader was just 17 of 31 for 324 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The brightest light for Syracuse has been running back Sean Tucker, who had another good game with 106 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Oronde Gadsden had 6 catches for 85 yards while Devaughn Cooper and LeQuint Allen each had touchdown catches. The Orange rank 71st in points scored with 28 points per game and they rank 36th in points allowed giving up 22.6 points per game.

Eagles are blanked by Fighting Irish

The Boston College Eagles have had a terrible season. They are 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the ACC and they sit in last place in the ACC's Atlantic Division. they are coming off an embarrassing 44-0 loss to Notre Dame last week in South Bend. Notre Dame was a 20 point favorite. It was a tough pill to swallow as BC had been coming off a rare win, as they beat NC State on the road the week prior 21-20. But this was just a beatdown of epic proportions as they were completely outclassed by the superior Notre Dame team. Granted, conditions weren't great as it was snowing at game time, but still, one team performed and the other did not.

The Eagles only mustered 173 total yards against the Irish while giving up 437 to Notre Dame. Notre Dame had 22 first downs to 10 for BC. Oh yeah, the Eagles had , count 'em, 5, turnovers, including 3 interceptions. Eagles quarterback Emmett Morehead had a game he'd rather forget going 9 of 22 for 117 yards, 0 touchdowns and 3 picks. There weren't many highlights as Zay Flowers caught three passes for 46 yards and Alex Broome was the leading rusher with just 25 yards on the ground. The Eagles rank 125th in scoring with just 17.3 points per game, while they rank 103rd in poimts allowed, giving up 30.2 points per game.

Insiders Status:

These are two teams headed in the same direction -- down. Syracuse has lost five straight games and Boston College has lost five of their last six outing. Syracuse is the better team, or at least they should be, but 10.5 points is way too many points to give up to a team that is struggling as much as they are right now -- playing on the road no less. Now BC is not a good football team, but they played Duke tough and covered, beat Louisville, and hung with Clemson for a good portion of that game until things got out of hand late. Syracuse on the other hand has only one road win, and that was at UConn, so while they may pull this one out, take Boston College to cover getting the points.

Prediction: Boston College +10.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The total here is 45.5, which is the lazy man's number -- just taking average points per game, adding them together, and voila, there's your total. I don't see it being that easy, as Boston College is not a good football team, but they play much better at home offensively. They scored 31 points against Duke in their last home game, back on Nov. 4. In other home games they scored 34 against Louisville, 38 against Maine and 21 against Rutgers. Boston College is a decent passing team and in their last win against NC State on the road, Morehead threw for 330 yards and a 3 touchdowns, so they can move the ball through the air. Playing their final home game of the season, I see them going toe-to-toe with the Orange in a high scoring affair. Take the over.

Prediction: Over 45.5
