Meanwhile, Troy has dropped consecutive contests and sit fourth in the Sun Belt East. Overall, the Trojans are 1-4 since a Sept. 28 loss vs. visiting Arkansas State.
Even with superior momentum, Georgia Southern opens this week the slight -2.5 road favorite. Last season the Eagles dropped a 37-20 meeting vs. Troy.

During their unbeaten run, the Eagles’ impressive grit has carried their cause in double and triple overtime victories vs. conference rivals South Alabama & Coastal Carolina.
However, Georgia Southern's latest victory vs. nationally recognized Appalachian State solidifies the Eagles’ turnaround. In that signature 24-21 road win Georgia Southern’s 335 rushing yards, led by Wesley Kennedy’s 145 yards and two scores, boosted the Eagles’ victory.

This weekend, Georgia Southern seeks similar results while looking to avoid a letdown vs. overmatched competition. The Eagles rank #21 FBS offensively at 36.6 points for and #117 defensively at 34.9 points allowed. Senior linebacker Ed Curney (3.0 sacks) is sidelined vs. Troy with a torn ACL.
Troy fighting to remain bowl eligibleFollowing three consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins, Troy enters this weekend fighting for bowl eligibility. The Trojans recently lost their fifth 2019 outing 36-35 vs. Coastal Carolina. In defeat, Troy senior quarterback Caleb Barker enjoyed an outstanding 26 of 35, three-touchdown outing. The Trojans’ added two ground scores, but couldn’t outlast the Chanticleer’s rally.
Troy’s latest setback became the school’s third 2019 loss by seven points or less. The Trojans rank #30 offensively at 34.8 points for and #107 FBS defensively at 32.6 points against. Troy enters Saturday’s contest with no major injuries reported.
