The Nevada Wolfpack look for an upset this weekend of host Mountain West leader San Diego State. SDSU has won four straight pushing their conference record to 4-1. Meanwhile, the Wolfpack have split their last four contests, recently defeating New Mexico 21-10.

After dropping last season’s meeting 24-28 vs. Nevada, San Diego State enters today’s matchup as convincing 17.5 point favorites. The Aztecs currently sit #24 in the latest AP poll.

San Diego State looking for conference title

In their ninth season under Rocky Long, San Diego State has enjoyed a revival after finishing 7-6 last year. The Aztecs’ #8 ranked FBS defense is limiting opponents chances while producing methodical wins.

The latest controlled Aztecs victory came 20-17 vs. UNLV. To end October, the Aztecs enjoyed a recent bye week, San Diego State opened 17-0 vs. the Rebels before smothering the Rebels’ comeback attempt. SDSU quarter back Ryan Agnew completed 14 of 23 with one scoring strike and one interception. Aztec linebacker Caden McDonald’s opportune punt return score and kicker Matt Araiza’s 2/2 FG day settled matters.

With many close wins on their ledger, luck and preparation has overcome San Diego State’s #111 FBS offense (21.8 ppg).

Wolfpack seek bowl eligible status

One season after claiming the Arizona Bowl, Jay Norvell’s men are one win shy of repeat bowl eligibility. The Wolfpack have overcome their low-end statistical profile to amass five 2019 victories. Nevada ranks both #116 offensively (19.3 points for) & defensively (34.6 points against) to own a plus .500 record.

The Wolfpack recently downed visiting New Mexico 21-10. Freshman quarterback Carson Strong’s 28 of 40, 305 yard, two touchdown day lifted Nevada to renewed conference success. The Wolfpack defense held the Lobos in check while setting the stage for this afternoon’s pivotal conference tilt.

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Yes, Nevada has proven statistically inconsistent in 2019 while allowing a ton of points and scoring at an equally inefficient clip. However, the Wolfpack are 5-4 as San Jose State has won just one contest this season by more than 17.5 points. For that reason, the Aztecs’ scoring lulls, Nevada will defy the point spread.

Prediction: Nevada ATS

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

Given both team’s offensive struggles the Under is a solid play at 38.5 total. I’m not confident with SDSU’s offense, even vs. statistically poor defense. Likewise, Nevada won’t generate enough offense to approach the meager set total for today’s conference matchup.
