The Virginia Tech Hokies will host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in an ACC battle Saturday afternoon from Lane Stadium. The Demon Deacons recorded a 44-10 home win against NC State last week, and the Hokies are coming off a narrow 21-20 road loss to #16 Notre Dame. This marks the first meeting between these foes since 2014 in a game Wake Forest won by a 6-3 score.

#22 Wake Forest Targets Third Straight Win

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are seeking their third consecutive victory. The Demon Deacons have countered a loss to Louisville be defeating Florida State, followed by a dominating 44-10 home win over NC State last week in a matchup that has Wake Forest favored by eight points. The Demon Deacons are now in second place in the ACC Atlantic behind Clemson.

Jamie Newman is having a tremendous season. The junior QB has registered 13 TD passes in his last four games, and he has logged 2059 passing yards with a stellar 20:5 TD to INT ratio. Newman should resume his fine play against a vulnerable pass defense. The Demon Deacons can exploit opponents on the ground as well. They spread their rushes through several running backs led by Cade Carney and Kenneth Walker who both have 383 rushing yards.

Watch for Sage Surratt who continues to shine. The senior WR has accused a remarkable 28 catches in his last three games, and he is up to 948 receiving yards, making him one of the best WR’s in the ACC. Wake Forest has established themselves as an offensive powerhouse.

The Demon Deacons defense isn’t quite as effective as the offense, although are looking good recently, allowing only 30 points in their last two games. Wake Forest will concede yards in the air with a pass defense that is 92nd in the FBS. The Demon Deacons are currently averaging 38 points, good for 16th in the country. They are allowing an average of 24.6 points, pegging them 47th overall. The Demon Deacons climbed one spot to #22nd in the country in this week's AP Top 25 rankings.

Hokies Three Game Streak Snapped in Loss to #16 Notre Dame

The Virginia Tech Hokies are one win away from bowl eligibility. The Hokies are playing well. They had their three-game winning streak snapped in a tough 21-20 road loss to #16 Notre Dame in a game that had them pegged as 17.5 point dogs.

The Hokies have used three different quarterbacks this season. Quincy Patterson made his first career start last week in place of Hendon Hooker who led the Hokies to their three-game streak. Patterson recorded 139 passing yards in last week's loss. Head coach Justin Fuente has not committed to a starter for this one, and it will likely be a game-time decision. Hendon Hooker has accrued 580 passing yards with a 7:0 TD to INT ratio on the season, and the sophomore is dealing with a knee injury right now. Hooker will likely start if he is healthy enough.

The Hokies' rushing offense is more productive than their passing game. They currently stand 67th in rushing offense led by Deshawn McClease. The junior RB has eclipsed 100 rushing yards twice this season, and he is up to 507 rushing yards. VT utilizes multiple receivers. Tayvion Robinson has amassed a team-high 24 receptions, and he has a total of 267 yards. The Hokies offense is inconsistent although they averaged 39 points in their recent three-game winning streak.

The Virginia Tech defense has experienced trouble for most of ACC play which included over 40 points surrendered against Duke and North Carolina. They are placed down at 110th against the pass and they have a daunting task against Wake Forest. The Hokies are scoring an average of 29 points, ranking them 68th overall. They are allowing an average of 28.5 points, placing them 75th in the FBS. Virginia Tech is 4-1 on their home field.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

I am siding with Virginia Tech in this one. Virginia Tech is a confident team that is not intimidated by the opponent in front of them. They have won three out of their last four games which included a win against Miami FL and North Carolina. They nearly beat #16 Notre Dame on the road last week but fell 21-20. Wake Forest has only played two road games all season which has inflated some of their stats.

Furthermore, the Hokies have the talent to generate offense both in the air and on the ground.  They scored over 40 points against Miami FL and North Carolina who are two great defensive teams. Wake Forest has a subpar pass defense that stands 92nd in the country while their rush defense is 61st. Lane Stadium is a tough play for opposing teams to thrive in, and I expect the Hokies to come out on top.

Prediction: Virginia Tech Hokies

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The over is also a strong play. As mentioned the Hokies offense is looking good with the exception of last week’s loss to #16 Notre Dame. They have rushed for over 200 yards in two out of their last three games, and I anticipate more success on the ground this week. Also, the over is 6-0-1 in the Hokies’ last seven non-conference games.

In addition, Wake Forest features one of the best offensive units in the ACC. They stand ninth in the country with 323 passing yards per game, and the Hokies pass defense is an issue, ranking 110th in passing yards allowed per game. The over is 4-0 in the Hokies' last four home games against a team with a winning road record, and it should cash again in this one.

Prediction: Over

Full-Game Prop Bet

Insiders Status:

The over on the Virginia Tech team total offered on PointsBet is a recommended option. The Hokies have played solid defensive ACC rivals and come away with big offensive performances. They tallied 42 points against Miami, and 43 points against the Tar Heels. Wake Forest is squandering an average of 400 total yards per game, and I expect the Hokies to do enough on the ground and in the air in this one.

Prediction: Virginia Tech Team Total Over

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

I am sticking with the over on the halftime total. Both teams are quite productive in the first half. Wake Forest is 14th in the country with an average of 20.9 points. Virginia Tech has been a strong first half team recently, averaging a stellar 21 points in their last three games. Moving on to the defensive side, both teams will give up points. The Hokies are 69th with an average of 15 points allowed in the opening half, and the Demon Deacons are conceding an average of 15.3 points, placing them 75th.

Prediction: Over
