Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Louisville Cardinals

Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN

When: Monday, December 30, 4:00 PM. ET.

The Louisville Cardinals will be trying to bounce back from their loss to Kentucky in their regular-season finale when they take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.

Bulldogs Going For Third Consecutive Win

The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season by winning their last two games and three of their last four games. They will try to finish the season on a high note with a win over the Cardinals, which will give them their third win in a row and fourth win in their last five games.

Mississippi State defeated Louisville the last time they met in a bowl game in 2017 and will try to bounce back from their loss to Iowa in the Outback Bowl last season with another bowl win over the Cardinals, which will give them four wins in their last five bowl games.

The Bulldogs averaged 27.8 points per game during the regular season. The team did a great job running the ball, averaging 226.9 rushing yards per game, which was 18th in the country. They also threw for 176 yards per game. With the Cardinals giving up over 500 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns in their last game, expect the Bulldogs to keep the ball on the ground in this game.

Garrett Shrader led the way for the Bulldogs through the air with 1,170 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. Kylin Hill rushed for 1,347 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Deddrick Thomas led the team with 29 receptions for 390 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs struggled defensively, giving up 28.1 points per game. They played well in their last two games, holding opponents to 13.5 points per game and will need to continue playing well defensively if they want to get the win.

Cardinals Going For Third Win In Four Games

The Cardinals ended their regular season with a loss against rival Kentucky and will try to bounce back from the loss with a win over the Bulldogs, which will avenge their loss to Mississippi State in the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl and give them their third win in their last four games.

Louisville failed to make a bowl game for two consecutive years and will be making its return to the postseason this year. They will be trying to snap a two-bowl losing streak when they face the Bulldogs this year.

The Cardinals have played well offensively, averaging 32.7 points per game. The team has done a great job on the ground, averaging 214.1 rushing yards per game. They also averaged 228 passing yards per game.

Micale Cunningham led the team in passing with 1,786 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Javian Hawkins led the team in rushing with 1,420 yards and eight touchdowns, while Tutu Atwell had 61 receptions for 1,129 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Louisville struggled defensively, giving up 33.8 points per game. The team didn’t play well against the run in their last game and will have a hard time picking up the win here if they do not do a better job defending the run.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Bulldogs and Cardinals struggled defensively during the regular season, so expect this to be a high-scoring game. Even though the Cardinals have played better offensively, the Bulldogs are the pick. Mississippi State is one of the best rushing teams in the country, averaging 226.9 rushing yards per game. The Cardinals have struggled against the run, giving up 211 rushing yards per game, and didn’t do a good job defending the run in their last game, giving up 517 rushing yards and six touchdowns to Kentucky in their final game of the season. The Wildcats threw the ball only twice in that game as they picked up the easy win. After watching Kentucky run all over Louisville, expect Mississippi State to use the same game plan against the Cardinals. The Cardinals have also had a lot of success running the ball this season, averaging 214.4 rushing yards per game, but the Bulldogs have played well against the run and are holding opponents to 148.6 rushing yards per game. With the Cardinals struggling against the run and going 0-4 ATS in their last four games against SEC teams, the Bulldogs are the best bet here.

Prediction: Mississippi State Bulldogs -3.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Bulldogs are averaging 27.8 points per game and will go over their season average in this game because the Cardinals have had trouble stopping the run and are giving up 33.8 points per game. The Cardinals played worse at the end of the season and gave up 37.7 points per game in their last four games, which means they are likely to give up over 30 points in this game. Louisville averaged 32.7 points per game during the regular season. The team is also likely to go over its season average against the Bulldogs, who also struggle against the run and are giving up 28.1 points per game. With both offenses expected to capitalize on struggling defenses, the over makes the most sense here. The Bulldogs have played over the total in four of their last six games against ACC teams while the Cardinals have played over the total in four of their last five games.

Prediction: Over 62

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

Rating:

The Bulldogs will cover the first-half spread in this game because they have outplayed the Cardinals in the first half of their last three games, averaging 19.7 points per game while the Cardinals average 16 points per game.
