The Butler Bulldogs will host the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday in a Pioneer League match-up. These teams met last season on Oct. 12, 2019, and Drake came away with a 42-7 victory.

Drake looks to fight to .500

The Drake Bulldogs went 6-5 overall and 6-2 in the League during the 2019 season. Drake is 1-2 this year, with a 13-10 loss to San Diego to open the season on March 13. The last two games for the Bulldogs have both been against Valparaiso. They defeated Valpo at home 17-6 on March 20 but lost to Valpo in the rematch 10-7 on the road on March 27.

There haven't been many offensive fireworks in Drake's games this season, with the team only averaging 11.3 ppg and holding opponents to just 9.7 ppg. Drake has thrown for 74 yards per game with no touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards per contest. Caden Meis, a 5'11 sophomore running back, has been the team's most productive offensive skills player rushing for 142 yards on 5.3 yards per attempt and two touchdowns. On defense, Drake has allowed 143.7 passing yards per game and 93.3 rushing yards per game.

Butler looking for first win

The Butler Bulldogs went 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Pioneer Football League last season. This year Butler is still looking for its first win after starting 0-4. Like Drake, Butler has also played Valparaiso twice, dropping both games. Butler lost the season opener at home to Valp 24-14 and again to Valpo on the road 28-25 on March 27. The Bulldogs have also lost to San Diego 27-13 on March 20 and lost at home to Morehead State 35-14 last Saturday.

Butler averages 16.5 ppg, 205.3 passing yards, and 118.5 rushing yards per game offensively this season. Sam Brown, a 6'2 redshirt junior, has thrown for 776 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season. The Bulldogs defense has allowed 28.5 ppg, 217.8 passing yards, and 183 rushing yards per game.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Butler has been outscored 26.3 to 17.3 against the three common opponents (Valpo and San Diego), that Drake was able to outscore 11.3 to 9.7. Although Drake's offense has not been strong this season, the defense should completely shut Butler down and capitalize against mistake-prone quarterback Sam Brown who has thrown from eight touchdowns but 12 interceptions in his career. I will take Drake to cover.

Prediction: Drake -10

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Drake has not allowed more than 13 points in any game this season and has not scored more than 17 points in any of those games. Butler has been held to 14 points or less in three of their four games and will not light up the scoreboard against Drake. Although Butler has not been great defensively, I think this game stays very lowing scoring due to Drake having a run-dominated offense that has not been explosive at all this season. I am taking Drake to win this game 21-10 and for the total to fall under.

Prediction: Under 34
