No. 2 Weber State will have a chance to clinch the Big Sky Conference when it hosts Idaho State on Saturday afternoon. The Bengals are coming off a narrow win over Idaho, putting them at 2-3 in the spring. Weber State is perfect through its four games this season, including a 49-21 win over Idaho State in February.

Bengals looking for a better outing this time around

Idaho State has lost three of its five games this spring, but two of them came by a combined eight points. The Bengals have picked up a pair of close wins as well. They beat Southern Utah 26-24 on March 6 and then grabbed their second win of the spring in a 24-22 win over Idaho in a rivalry game last week. Idaho State has lost its last 17 games on the road at Weber State, with its last win coming on Nov. 3, 1984. The Bengals lost the first game this season in a 49-21 decision at home—they have not won in the series since 2014.

They have only won three games against ranked opponents in road games, with the last one coming in 2018 at No. 22 North Dakota. Senior wide receiver Tanner Conner has caught a team-high 28 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman Jalen Henderson has 17 receptions for 254 yards and one score. Junior quarterback Tyler Vander Waal has completed 55.7% of his attempts for 1,570 yards. He has thrown 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Running back Malakai Rango has carried the ball 77 times for 299 yards and three touchdowns.

Weber State continues to rank second in polls

Weber State opened the season with a 49-21 win at Idaho State, so it will be confident heading into this game. The Wildcats scored 14 points in the second quarter and added 28 points in the third quarter to really blow the game open. They racked up 638 total yards in that game, while giving up 415. Weber State has added narrow wins over UC Davis, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. Its game against Cal Poly for next week has been canceled, so it can clinch a conference title with a win.

The Wildcats' second-place ranking is their highest in school history. They will not be recognizing seniors on Saturday, as all of them plan to return for the fall season. Weber State leads the Big Sky in scoring defense, total defense, passing defense and interceptions. Conner Mortensen and Desmond Williams both have 33 tackles to lead the team. Preston Smith leads the conference in interceptions. Weber State is second in the league in rushing offense with 225 yards per game and is fourth in total offense. Josh Davis is first in the conference with 96.5 yards per contest.

Insiders Status:

We are getting a really good number on Weber State in this game. It has been the best team in the conference throughout the season and already has one blowout win over Idaho State under its belt this year. The Wildcats also donโ€™t have the pressure of senior day in this game, which I think is a positive. They lead the league in rushing offense and Idaho State had no answer when these teams met in February. They also have the best defense, which makes them a confident play on Saturday afternoon.

Prediction: Weber State -9

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

Weber State has been heavily correlated to the under this spring. The Wildcats have the best defense in the league, which is the obvious part of this handicap. They also rely on their strong rushing attack offensively, so the game tends to slow down when they are on offense. The 49 points they put up against Idaho State in the season opener has been the anomaly compared to the rest of their games. This is a very high total due to the final score of that game, but I expect a much different style of game this time around.

Prediction: Under 51.5
