Mississippi Valley State and Alabama State will both be looking to bounce back from losses when they square off on Saturday afternoon. The Delta Devils had a comeback bid fall just short in their game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last week. Alabama State lost a low-scoring affair against South Carolina State.
Delta Devils comeback falls shortMississippi Valley State has only played one road game so far this spring season, losing to Jackson State in a 43-7 blowout to open the slate of games. The Delta Devils picked up their lone win a week later, but it came because Alcorn State forfeited. They played their first real game since the opener last week, losing to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 24-17 final. Arkansas-Pine Bluff grabbed a 17-3 halftime lead before Mississippi Valley State opened the second half with a touchdown.

The Delta Devils tied the game on an interception that was followed by a 50-yard touchdown run. However, Arkansas-Pine Bluff had a 90-yard punt return to grab the win. Running back Caleb Johnson has rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 20 attempts. Wide receiver Malik Myers has caught five passes for a team-high 63 yards.
Hornets coming off heartbreaking lossAlabama State has been playing close games all spring. The Hornets opened the year with a 24-21 loss to Southern on Feb. 26. They also grabbed a free win over Alcorn State before picking up a home win over Jackson State by a score of 35-28. Their game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which was scheduled for March 27, was canceled. They tied last week’s game against South Carolina State with 3:05 left in the game, but they gave up the game-winning touchdown with 1:17 left.
Irshaad Davis led the Alabama State defense with 11 tackles, including one tackle for a loss. Jaquan Foote finished with eight tackles in his first game of the year. Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
Alabama State has been playing close games all season, so there is no chance I am going to take them to win this game by multiple touchdowns. Mississippi Valley State plays with a lot of heart and refuses to give up when it gets down. The Delta Devils fought back last week after facing a large deficit. They will be looking to control the tempo against Alabama State. The Hornets are coming off an emotional loss, so that could bleed into the start of this one.
Full-Game Total Pick
I expect this to be a low-scoring game on Saturday afternoon. Both teams want to control the tempo and run the ball. Gray is one of the best running backs in the conference. Eason has not thrown a touchdown this spring, which makes them one of the lowest scoring teams this spring. Alabama State played a 14-7 contest last week against South Carolina State, which was an even lower scoring game than the final score would indicate. Mississippi Valley State has not reached 20 points yet this season.
