Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs. Troy Trojans

Where: Veterans Memorial Stadium, Troy, AL

When: Saturday, September 14, 6:00 PM. ET.

The Troy Trojans will be trying to remain undefeated when they take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in non-conference action on Saturday night.

Golden Eagles Trying To Avoid A Losing Streak

The Golden Eagles were unable to follow up their season-opening win with another win in their previous game, losing to Mississippi State 38-15. They will be trying to bounce back from the loss and avoid a losing streak when they play the Trojans on Saturday.

Southern Mississippi has played well offensively so far and the team is averaging 26.5 points per game. They have had a lot of success throwing the ball and are averaging 263.5 passing yards per game. In their last game, quarterback Jack Abraham completed 18 of 26 passes for 234 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

The Golden Eagles haven’t run the ball as successfully and are averaging 103 rushing yards per game, which is 113th in the country. If they can get their running game going, they will cause problems for the Trojans on Saturday.

Trojans Going For Second Consecutive Win

The Trojans got their season off on the right note with a win over Campbell in their opening game. Despite the win, the team can’t get too confident because the Golden Eagles present a bigger challenge than the Fighting Camels did.

Troy looked very good offensively in their first game, throwing for 282 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 245 yards and three touchdowns. Kaleb Barker led the way for Troy, completing 18 of 29 passes, while B.J. Smith led the way on the ground with 108 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.

The Golden Eagles struggled against the run in their last game, giving up 210 yards and three touchdowns. Expect the Trojans to try to establish the run early in this game and try to take advantage of Southern Mississippi’s weakness on defense.

Troy’s defense will try to take Southern Mississippi’s running game away and force the team to beat them through the air. If they can get enough pressure on Abraham, they should be able to force him to turn the ball over and give their offense more scoring opportunities.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

The Trojans are a very good team that is 4-0 ATS in their last four September games, going up against a Southern Mississippi team that is 2-5 in their last seven games following a straight-up loss. The Trojans have the edge because they can beat opponents through the air or on the ground and have a much better defense than the Golden Eagles. Expect their defense to shut down Southern Mississippi’s passing game and force them to try to beat them on the ground.
