The winless Colorado State Rams will take on the Toledo Rockets at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

Colorado State enters the week still searching for its first victory after losing at home versus Vanderbilt last weekend. Meanwhile, Toledo gave No.8-ranked Notre Dame all it could handle in a hard-fought loss. The Rockets enter with a 1-1 overall record and will be trying to finish the non-conference schedule strong before opening the MAC season on the road against Ball State next week.

Can Toledo avoid an upset against a Colorado State team hungry for its first win on Saturday?

Rams fall to Vanderbilt in ugly home loss

Colorado State suffered a forgettable 24-21 loss at home versus Vanderbilt last week. Todd Centeio completed 20 of 38 passes for 238 yards with two touchdowns and one interception on the day. Running back David Bailey rushed for 80 yards with a score and caught another touchdown while receiver Trey McBridge led the way with eight catches for 114 yards and a score in the loss. The Rams got out to an early 14-point lead before giving up 21 straight points and losing on a field goal as time expired. Prior to the game, Vanderbilt had lost 11 straight contests.

Centeio was supposed to help the Rams take some pressure off of the run game this season. Through two games, the 6-foot-1 senior has completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 542 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Centeio flashed his athleticism in the team’s loss versus Vanderbilt rushing for 75 yards, including a 32-yard run. McBridge has been his top target, catching 21 passes for 230 yards and a score already this year.

On defense, Colorado State comes in allowing 33 points per game and 404 yards of total offense per contest. Stopping the run has been a major challenge for the Rams, who have surrendered 173 rushing yards per game, 92nd in the FBS.

Toledo's upset bid falls short vs. No.8-ranked Notre Dame

The Rockets was unable to pull off the upset in a 32-29 loss on the road against Notre Dame last week. Carter Bradley completed 18 of 28 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown in the loss. Running back Brent Koback rushed for 114 yards and Devin Maddox also topped the century-mark with nine catches for 135 yards on the day. Toledo overcame a late eight-point deficit with a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter but was unable to get a stop when it needed it most. After playing tough for most of the game, the Rockets defense allowed Notre Dame to go 75 yards in just three plays on the game-winning drive.

Penalties continue to loom large for the Rockets. Last weekend, Toledo was penalized four times in the first seven plays and flags also played a major role on the game-winning drive as well. The Rockets were flagged six times over the final 1:30 with five of those penalties being accepted. Through two weeks, only two teams, Ole Miss and UTEP, have been penalized more than Toledo.

On defense, Toledo has surrendered 21.0 points per game and 360.5 yards of total offense per contest.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

While Bradley has handled most of the passing work, Toledo’s two-quarterback system has worked so far this season. The Rockets were able to move the ball with consistency against Notre Dame last week but could be in for a letdown against a hungry Rams team. Colorado State is better than it has shown through the first two weeks of the season. Centeio is a capable quarterback and should be able to keep this game from getting away from Colorado State here. Take the Rams to cover the spread on the road in this non-conference tilt against Toledo on Saturday.

Prediction: Colorado State Rams +14.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

These two teams are projected for 58.5 points but that number could be set a bit too low here. Toledo is coming off of a disappointing result in last week’s game against the Fighting Irish and should be able to move the ball against a disinterested Rams defense. Colorado State has not been able to get stops this season. The Rams have given up 33 points per game and over 400 yards of total offense. They have also struggled against the run, so expect them to have some trouble against a run-heavy Toledo attack. Take this game to go over the projected total on Saturday afternoon.

Prediction: Over 58.5
