Connecticut Huskies (0-3) vs. Army Black Knights (2-0)
The Army Black Knights will look to remain undefeated when they welcome the Connecticut Huskies on Saturday. Army is coming off a 38-35 victory over Western Kentucky, moving the team to 2-0. Connecticut is winless in their first three games, shutout twice already. They lost to Purdue on Saturday, 49-0.
Army comes in as a 34.5-point favorite. The Huskies defeated the Black Knights the last time these teams played, winning 22-17 on September 12, 2015. Army won the previous meeting in November 2014, 35-21.

The UConn offense is averaging a lowly 9.33 points and 197.3 yards per game. Two have played significant time at the quarterback position for the Huskies this season. Jack Zergiotis has completed just 29 of 65 passes for 235 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Steven Krajewski has also seen significant time, completing 14 of 25 passes for 99 yards and a pick.
Kevin Mensah leads the team in rushing with 107 yards on 40 carries. The leading receiver has been with Ross Cameron with eight catches for 60 yards. Keelon Marion has four receptions for 60 yards and two scores.
The defense has not been very good for the Huskies. They are allowing 44.0 points and 487.7 yards per game. Jackson Mitchell leads the team with 26 tackles. The Huskies have seven sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Travis Jones leads the team with two sacks.
Black Knights Hold off Western KentuckyArmy took a 35-14 lead early in the fourth quarter, but watched Western Kentucky battle back before holding on for the 38-35 victory. The Black Knights rolled up 339 yards on the ground and 416 yards of total offense. The defense struggled against the passing game of Western Kentucky, allowing 435 yards through the air.
Army is averaging 40.5 points and 386.0 yards per contest. It has been a bruising ground attack that has led the Black Knights, led by Christian Anderson with 174 yards on 37 carries. Anderson has also completed six of eight passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Jakobi Buchanan and Tyrell Robinson each have better than 90 yards rushing.
Army is allowing 22.5 points and 327.0 yards per game. The defense has six sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Julian McDuffie leads the team with 15 tackles. Andre Carter has been an absolute beast, recording 4.5 of the team's six sacks the season.
Best Bets for this Game
Full-Game Side Bet
Ok, I am not expecting Connecticut to win this game. In fact, I expect the Huskies to be blown out. However, there is no way that Army is going to win this game by 35 points or more.
Through the first two games, the Black Knights have averaged 40.5 points per game. I would not be surprised to see them score 38 in this contest. Army does not have a dynamic offense. They run the option, which is all about gaining yards on the ground and possessing clok. However, can they shut down the Huskies so that UConn produces no points at all? The answer to that is no.
This Army defense did well against Georgia State but still gave up 10 points. The Huskies are a bit better than Army’s first-week opponent and we watched Western Kentucky light it up against the Black Knights last week. All Connecticut has to do to cover the spread is score 1 touchdown and I look for that to occur.
Full-Game Total Pick
The total is set at 48.5 and this is a tough call. Army loves to run the ball, and that leads to a lot of time where the clock is running. In fact, Army had the ball for 42:07 against Georgia State and 39:38 against Western Kentucky. That helps to keep a contest under.
It also helps that the Huskies' offense has been terrible this season. They were able to produce 28 points against Holy Cross but have been kept off the scoreboard against both Fresno State and Purdue. I see them scoring no more than 10 points in this game, so the question becomes if Army can produce better than 38. That is a tough call.
Take Army to win, 38-7.
