The Georgia Southern Eagles will be going for their second consecutive win when they take on the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday afternoon.

(This game has been postponed as FAU is dealing with a coronavirus outbreak)

Owls Hoping To Repeat As Conference Champions

The Owls won the Conference USA title last season, giving them the conference crown for the second time in three seasons. They will try to win the title for the second year in a row, starting with a win over the Eagles.

Florida Atlantic was a good offensive team last season, averaging 36.3 points per game. They averaged 282.6 passing yards and 166 rushing yards per game. They lost head coach Lane Kiffin and their starting quarterback, so their offense likely won’t be as potent this season.

The Owls also played well on the defensive end, giving up 22.3 points per game. They lost three of their four starters on the defensive line and also lost their starting cornerbacks. They have only one returning linebacker and will probably be worse than they were last season.

Eagles Need To Avoid Slow Start

The Eagles fell behind early in their last game and needed a fourth quarter rally to get past lowly Campbell. They will need to get off to a better start against a good Florida International team if they do not want to be handed their first loss of the season.

Georgia Southern played well offensively in their last game scoring 27 points. The team’s ground game remains very good, with the team finishing with 284 yards and two touchdowns.

Shai Werts completed seven of 13 passes for 53 yards and one touchdown, and also led the team with 155 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Eagles didn’t play well in their last game giving up 26 points. They will need to do a better job, especially against the pass, if they want to get past the Owls.

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

Florida Atlantic will win a close game. The Eagles didnโ€™t look impressive in their last game and needed a fourth quarter comeback to get past Campbell in their last game. They struggled against the pass, giving up 237 yards and two touchdowns, and will have a hard time slowing down the Owls, who averaged 282.6 yards per game. The Owls averaged 166 rushing yards per game last season and have a lot of depth at the running back position, so expect them to run more than they did last season, especially after the Eagles gave up 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns in their last game.

Prediction: Florida Atlantic Owls

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Owls were a good offensive team last season, averaging 36.3 points per game. Even though they lost their starting quarterback and tight end, they have a capable replacement and a lot of depth at the running back position and will score at least 26 points against the Eagles in this game. The Eagles scored 27 points in their opener and should be able to score in this game because they have a very good ground game that accounted for 284 yards and two touchdowns in their last game. Even though they wonโ€™t score 27 points on the Owls, who gave up 22.3 points per game last season, they will score enough to push the score over the total.

Prediction: Over

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

The Owls will win the first half of this game because they outplayed the Eagles in the first half of their games last season, averaging 18.3 points per game, while the Eagles averaged 14.6 points per game.

Prediction: Florida Atlantic Owls

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

The Eagles and Owls averaged 32.9 combined points per game in the first half of their games last season and will go over the first half total in this game if they maintain their scoring pace.

Prediction: Over
