This Saturday, there will be a college football matchup between two Conference USA teams as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs travel to M. M. Roberts Stadium to take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. This game will be taking place at 7:30 P.M. EST and it will be the first conference game of the season for both teams.
Bulldogs Finally Get To Start The 2020 SeasonThe Louisiana Tech Bulldogs enter this season following a very successful 2019 campaign. Last season, Louisiana Tech managed to win ten games including a victory against Miami FL in the Independence Bowl. According to projections, Louisiana Tech is expected to take a bit of a step back but should still win approximately eight games so it should once again be in contention for a C-USA title. However, its season opener was supposed to be last weekend but ended up getting postponed so it will finally be able to start the 2020 season this Saturday.
Leading the Bulldogs offensively is senior running back Justin Henderson who was extremely solid last season as he had 1,062 rushing yards along with 15 rushing touchdowns. In addition, he had 24 receptions for 200 receiving yards so he is a threat in several areas of the offense.
Louisiana Tech's defense will be led by senior linebacker Ezekiel Barnett who was pretty good last season. In 2019, he recorded 59 tackles (27 solo) along with four sacks and one interception. Now, Barnett will be looking to put together an even better statistical season as one of the veteran leaders of this defense.
Southern Miss Switches Head CoachesThe Southern Miss Golden Eagles entered this season with the hopes of competing for a conference championship. Last season, Southern Miss managed to win seven games before losing to Tulane in the Armed Forces Bowl. However, the 2020 season got off to a horrible start as it lost at home as double-digit favorites to South Alabama. As a result, its head coach resigned and Scotty Walden was named the interim coach which is a bit concerning since he only has Division III head coaching experience. Regardless, Southern Miss will now be looking to get back to a .500 record with another home game up next.
Leading the Golden Eagles offensively is senior quarterback Jack Abraham who was pretty good in the first game of the season as he had 214 passing yards along with 28 rushing yards. However, he had zero touchdowns so he will be looking to record his first touchdown pass of 2020 on Saturday.

Southern Miss' defense will be led by sophomore defensive back Malik Shorts who was pretty good in the first game of the season as he recorded a team-high 11 tackles. This performance was even more surprising when one considers the fact that he only recorded 21 tackles in 2019. Now, he will be looking to surpass his entire total from last season with another solid performance on Saturday.
