Nevada Wolf Pack vs. UTEP Miners

Where: Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX

When: Saturday, September 21, 8:00 PM. ET.

The UTEP Miners will be trying to bounce back from their loss to Texas Tech when they take on the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday night.

Wolf Pack Going For First Road Win

The Wolf Pack were run out of town in an embarrassing fashion when they faced Oregon in their first road game, losing the game 77-6. They managed to bounce back with a win over Weber State in their last game but didn’t look very impressive in the six-point win. Now, they will be trying to pick up their second win in a row and first road win when they play the Miners.

Nevada has been a good offensive team in recent years, but the Wolf Pack are struggling to score this season, averaging 19.7 points per game, which is 115th in the country. Carson Strong has carried the offense with his passing, averaging 234.7 passing yards per game.

However, he is prone to turnovers and has given their opponents the ball five times in the last two games. He completed 30 of 44 passes for 299 yards, two interceptions and a fumble in their win over Weber State.

Nevada’s defense has also been a problem through their first three games with opponents averaging 40.3 points per game, which is 125th in the country. They played better in their last game after struggling in their first two games and will need to keep up the solid play to beat the Miners on Saturday.

Miners Going For Second Consecutive Home Win

The Miners won only one game last season and have already tied last season’s win total through their first two games. They will be trying to bounce back from their loss to Texas tech with a win over the Wolf Pack, which will give them their second straight home win and double their win total from last season.

Like the Wolf Pack, the Miners have also struggled offensively and are averaging 19.5 points per game, which is 116th in the country. The Miners have done most of their damage on the ground, where they are averaging 158.5 yards per game. The Red Raiders held them to 77 rushing yards in their last game, but they should be able to bounce back against one of the worst defenses in the country.

Treyvon Hughes leads the team in rushing but was held to 27 yards in their last game and will try to get back on track on Saturday.

The Miners have also had their problems on the defensive end, giving up 36 points per game, which is 115th in the country. If they can force Strong into turning the ball over as he did in his last game, they will give themselves a good chance to win the game.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

The Miners haven’t played well against the spread at home and have lost their last four contests. They have also struggled against non-conference opponents, losing five of their last six games ATS. The Wolf Pack didn’t look impressive in their win against State after turning the ball over three times. Expect them to take better care of the ball on the road. The two teams haven’t played since 2002, but the Wolf Pack won their last two meetings and will make it three wins in a row on Saturday against a UTEP team that will struggle with their speed.

Prediction: Nevada Wolf Pack -15.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Wolf Pack have played under the total in four of their last five games following an ATS loss while the Miners have played under the total in their last four home games against teams with winning road records. The two teams are averaging 39.2 combined points per game in their last three games so don’t expect to see a high-scoring affair on Saturday.

Prediction: Under 54

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

The Miners will cover the spread in the first half because they have outplayed the Wolf Pack, who have gotten off to slow starts in each of their first three games and are averaging 7.33 points in the first half of their last three games while the Miners are averaging 10 points per game.

Prediction: UTEP Miners +7

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

The Miners and Wolf Pack are averaging 17.33 combined points per game in the first half of their last three games and they will stay under the first-half total in this game if they maintain their current scoring pace.

Prediction: Under 29
