UConn Huskies vs. Indiana Hoosiers

Where: Memorial Stadium, Bloomington, IN

When: Saturday, September 21, 12:00 PM. ET.

The Indiana Hoosiers will be trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host the UConn Huskies in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Huskies Trying To Double Last Year’s Win Total

The Huskies managed to win only one game last season, which is one of the reasons they will go into this game as big underdogs. Despite the low expectations people have for them, the Huskies will try to pick up their second win in their first three games on Saturday night.

The Huskies have played well offensively, but they have not been able to get into the end zone as much as they would like and are averaging 23.5 points per game. With the team going up against an opponent that is averaging 32 points per game, they will need to do a better job avoiding costly mistakes so they can keep the score close and give themselves a chance to pick up the win.

Freshman quarterback Jack Zergiotis is expected to start his second collegiate game after being named the team starter over Michael Beaudry, who was injured in their first game. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 275 yards and two interceptions in the loss to Illinois.

Defensively, the Huskies will have a tough time trying to slow down Indiana’s passing game, with the team averaging 327.3 yards per game, which is 15th in the country. If they can get some pressure on quarterback Peyton Ramsey, they should be able to keep Indiana’s air attack in check and force them to beat them on the ground.

Hoosiers Going For Third Win In Four Games

The Hoosiers had their two-game winning streak snapped by the Ohio State Buckeyes in their last game, a 51-10 loss at home. They will be trying to bounce back from the loss with a win over a UConn team that will be trying to pull off the upset win.

Indiana has done a great job throwing the ball, thanks to freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who missed the team’s game against the Buckeyes because of an injury. Peyton Ramsey played well in his absence against the Buckeyes, completing 19 of 33 passes for 162 yards and one interception. However, his performance wasn’t good enough to help his team get the win over the Buckeyes in their last game.

With Penix Jr.’s status for this game still unknown, it is likely that Ramsey will start against the Huskies on Saturday. The Hoosiers will try to make life easier on their quarterback by establishing the run early in the game, but they will need him to do a better job protecting the ball.

Indiana’s defense was embarrassed by the Buckeyes and will need to do a better job to avoid a second straight loss. They struggled particularly against the run, giving up 306 yards and three touchdowns to the Buckeyes. With the Huskies averaging 122 rushing yards per game, they should be able to slow down the ground game on Saturday. If they do, they will force UConn’s freshman quarterback to try to beat them with his arm.

Best Bets for this Game

Full-Game Side Bet

Insiders Status:

The Hoosiers looked good in their first two games, but they were brought back to earth by Ohio State in their last game. They will try to take their frustrations out on the Huskies, but the Huskies aren’t the same team that won only one game last season and will step up to the challenge. UConn’s defense will struggle against the pass, with the Hoosiers averaging 327.3 passing yards per game. However, their offense will keep them in this game, which will be much closer than anticipated. Take the Huskies +27 in this one.

Prediction: UConn Huskies +27

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Huskies have played under the total in five of their last six games against teams with winning records, while the Hoosiers have played under the total in their last four non-conference games. With the two teams averaging 53.5 combined points per game, expect them to play under the total on Saturday.

Prediction: Under 58

Half-Time Side Pick

Insiders Status:

The Huskies will cover the spread in the first half of this game because they have put up similar numbers to the Hoosiers who are favored by 15.5 points and will keep the score close at halftime. The two teams are averaging 13 points per game in the first half, but the Hoosiers are giving up 20 points per game while the Huskies are giving up 24 points per game.

Prediction: UConn +15.5

Half-Time Total Bet

Insiders Status:

The Huskies and Hoosiers are averaging 26 combined points per game in the first half and will stay under the first-half total in this game if they maintain their current scoring pace.

Prediction: Under 31
