College Football action on Saturday evening and a pair of teams from the Sun Belt Conference will square off as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers duke it out with the UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. This contest will take place at Cajun Field, Lafayette, Louisiana. The Chanticleers are off a 58-21 road win over Campbell, while the Ragin Cajuns check in off a 56-10 loss at Mississippi State.
Chanticleers Lay Waste To Fighting Camels
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Lost in their opener to South Carolina, but they have bounced back to crush UAB and Campbell the last two weeks. They now will be looking for a three-game win streak in this first-ever meeting between these Sun Belt foes. The Chanticleers blew away the Fighting camels last week by a score of 58-21 and they outgained them 574-306 in the game. The ground attack was very strong as they ran for 333 yards in the contest. Torrance Marable had a solid game with 64 yards rushing and two TDs. It was his 2nd game in a row with two rushing TDs. The Chanticleers have been strong on the ground so far and that could continue in this one as UL Lafayette has one of the worst run defenses in the nation.
Kilton Anderson had a solid game against Campbell as he hit 10/14 passes for 203 yards with three TDs and an INT. Their passing game hasn’t been that good year, but if the running game has success, then Anderson could have a good game. The defense for the Chanticleers has not been that good, especially against the run, which may not be good news for this one as the Ragin Cajuns have a solid ground attack. The Chanticleers have some solid pieces and are off of back-to-back blow out wins, but can they keep it going in this one? That remains to be seen.
The Chanticleers enter this contest ranked 64th in the nation in total offense (426.7 ypg), 111th in passing (173.3 ypg), 21st in rushing (253.3 ypg), and 33rd in scoring at 40.0 ppg. On defense, they enter this contest ranked 99th in total yards allowed (434.0 ypg), 73rd against the pass (220.3 ypg) and 110th vs the run (213.7 ypg), while allowing 31.3 ppg, which is 95th in the nation.
Ragin Cajuns Were No Match For An SEC Power
The UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns have really had their issues with the SEC over the year. They come in off a 56-10 loss to Mississippi State on the road and they are now just 1-66 all-time against the SEC. That is not good. They just don’t have what it takes to hand with an SEC team, especially a strong one like Mississippi State is. UL Lafayette was outgained 607-310 in the game and they allowed the Bulldogs to pile up 331 yards on the ground. Their run defense has been very poor in the early going and they will need to clean that up for this one as the Chanticleers will run the ball down their throat if they don’t. They also allowed the Bulldogs to throw for 276 yards and at 11.5 yards per pop. The passing game the face today won’t be as good, but if they can’t stop the run then it could open up throwing lanes for Anderson to hit big plays down the field.
The Ragin Cajuns could not get their offense going at all against a very tough SEC defense, but they will not be facing a tough SEC defense in this one. They have a good offense that will do some damage against the weaker defense that they will face on their schedule. The Chanticleers are not a very good defensive team and the rushing attack of the Ragin Cajuns should have some success against a poor run defense of the Chanticleers. ULL had just 65 yards rushing last week, but they also had 315 yards in their opening win against Grambling. Trey Ragas had 142 yards rushing and a TD in that win.
The Ragin Cajuns come in ranked 62nd in the nation in total offense (433.0 ypg), 64th in passing (243.0 ypg), 59th in rushing (190.0 ypg), and 78th in scoring at 29.5 ppg. On defense, they check in at 108th in total yards allowed (457.5 ypg), 69th against the pass (217.5 ypg) and 119th vs the run (240.0 ypg), while allowing just 36.5 ppg, which is 112th in the nation.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns had a rough game last week against an SEC power, but they will not be taking on one this week. They have the overall talent edge in this game and they are at home. Coastal Carolina has looked good the last two weeks, but that was against UAB and Campbell. UL Lafayette is better than those two. They have an edge at QB and their defense rates the edge as well. The Cajuns will be able to run on the Chanticleers, who have struggled to stop the run so far. I like the Ragin Cajuns to take this one by at least a TD.
Prediction: UL Lafayette -4
Full-Game Total Pick
How many points will we see in this one? I think we will see some points, but it won’t be enough to put this game Over the total. Both teams love to run the ball and neither team can stop the run. That means that there will be a lot of clock-churning drives. This game has already been bet down from 68 and I will follow the money as I just don’t see the offenses combining for more than 60 points. The clincher is the fact that the Under is 12-5-1 in UL Lafayette’s last 18 conference games.
Prediction: Under 63
Half-Time Side Pick
The Ragin Cajuns were blown out last week by Mississippi State, but they always struggle with SEC teams. This is not an SEC team and they will not struggle in this one. Look for the Cajuns to grab the early lead and never let go.
Prediction: UL Lafayette -1.5
Half-Time Total Bet
Both teams love to run the ball and neither has been able to stop teams from running. there will be a lot of time-consuming drives in this one. I see this one going under at the half.
Prediction: Under 32
