Saturday afternoon on the college gridiron and we will see the Army Black Knights grapple with the Buffalo Bulls at UB Stadium in Buffalo New York. The Black Knights come in off a hard-fought 28-21 road loss to Oklahoma, while the Bulls check in off a strong 42-13 road win over Rutgers. These teams met last year and the Knights won that game at home by a score of 21-17.
Army Nearly Shocks The Sooners
The Army Black Knights went into their game with the powerful Oklahoma Sooners this past weekend as 30 point underdogs, but that didn’t phase them at all as they nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the young year so far if not the decade. The Black Knights lost that game by a score of 28-21 in OT. Their triple option was what kept them in the game as it allowed them to control the clock and keep the high-powered Sooners offense on the sideline. The Black Knights’ option was very effective as they ran for 339 yards on 78 carries against the Sooners. Kelvin Hopkins Jr threw for just 40 yards and had two INTs, but he also ran for 125 yards and two TDs. Hopkins leads the team in rushing with 308 yards this year while posting four TDs, while Woolfolk is second with 259 yards and three TDs.
They have a shot at having a good game on the ground in this one as the Bulls have been very average against the run this year. You have to be better than average to stop this ground attack. The Black Knights had a time of possession edge in the game of 44:41 to 15:19. That is a dominating TOP number and the Knights will look to do the same in this one. Their defense played well as they allowed just 335 yards of total offense to the Sooners. That is what happens when you hold the ball for a gazillion minutes. If they do it again, then they have a good shot of winning. The Knights have averaged 25.2 ppg (95th) while allowing 24.2 ppg (65th).
Bulls Crush Rutgers On The Road
The Buffalo Bulls just may be the best team in the MAC this year and now they are beating up Big 10 teams on the road. They not on;t beat Rutgers this past week, but they crushed them as they won the game by a score of 42-13. That is impressive. Now they have their sights on taking down an Army team that took Oklahoma to OT on the road last week. This has a shot at being a very good game. Buffalo rolled up 445 yards against a Big 1o defense, including 182 yards on the ground. Leading their attack was Jaret Patterson, who rumbled for 104 yards and two TDs. He had just 36 yards rushing in his first two games played this year. The Black Knights have been decent against the run this year, so it may not be all that easy for them this week.
The passing game has been solid as they come in ranked 44th in the nation in passing. Tyree Jackson hit just 14/28 passes and threw two INTs against Rutgers, but he also threw for 263 yards and three TDs. for the year, he has hit 61.95 of his passes for 1052 yards with 15 TDs and just three INTs. He will be a test for an Army team that has struggled to stop the pass this year. The Bulls allowed the Scarlet Knights just 284 yards of total offense, including just 116 yards on the ground. They have been decent against the run as they rank 44th in the nation in that category, but this will be the best ground attack that they will have faced so far. The Buks have averaged 40.2 ppg (31st) while allowing 20 ppg (36th).

Full-Game Side Bet
The Buffalo Bulls are off at a great start this year, but Army really showed something last week against the Sooners. Still, I will look for the Bulls to win this one badly. They are off a 27 points road win over Rutgers and will ride the momentum into this game. The Black Knights will have a let down after their near upset of the Sooners last week and that game will also make sure that the Bulls do not underestimate them. The Bulls are the strong team and they will win this one by at least 10 points.
Prediction: Buffalo -9.5
Full-Game Total Pick
I can see this as a low scoring game. The Bulls have a very solid defense and the Black Knights will run the ball all game to keep control of the clock. They did so last week against the Sooners and will do so again in this one. The Black Knights have not been great on defense, but they did hold the Sooners to just over 300 yards of offense last week and the Bulls will not get a ton of chances on offense as the Black Knights will control the clock for the most part. Take the Under in this one.
Prediction: Under 51.5
Half-Time Side Pick
The Black Knights nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college football history last week and that could have them in a letdown spot here, especially early on. The Bulls just crushed Rutgers on the road and are one of the best teams in the MAC. I look for them to lead by at least a TD at the half.
Prediction: Buffalo -4.5
Half-Time Total Bet
The Bulls have an explosive offense, but the Black Knights will not give them a lot of possessions as their running game will control the clock. The Bulls have been solid on defense so far and will keep that Army offense from going crazy early in this one. Look for the Under to cash at the half.
Prediction: Under 27.5
