The San Diego State Aztecs (2-2, 0-0 MW) will be trying to pick up their first conference win of the season when they face the Boise State Broncos (2-2, 1-0 MW) in Mountain West action on Friday night. The Aztecs are coming off a 17-14 win over Toledo as 2.5-point underdogs. The Broncos are coming off a 27-10 loss to UTEP as 16.5-point favorites.

San Diego State is 4-3 in seven games against Boise State.

Aztecs Going For Third Win In Five Games

The Aztecs bounced back from their loss to Utah with a win over the Rockets in their last game. They will try to keep the momentum going with a win over the Broncos, which will give them their second win in a row and third win in their last five games.

San Diego State is averaging 20.5 points per game. They are throwing for 73.8 yards and rushing for 220 yards per game.

Braxton Burmeister, a Virginia Tech transfer, completed 54 percent of his passes for 65 yards and one interception in the win over the Rockets. Jordan Byrd had 16 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns, while Mekhi Shaw had two catches for 21 yards.

San Diego State has played well defensively, giving up 23.5 points per game. They gave up 14 points in their last game and will need a similar effort if they want to get the win.

Broncos Trying To Bounce Back From Loss

The Broncos had their two-game winning streak snapped by the Miners in their last game, they will try to bounce back from the loss with a win over the Aztecs, which will give them their third win in their last five games.

Boise State is averaging 21.8 points per game. They are throwing for 163 yards and rushing for 120.3 yards per game. The offense has been inept this season so changes were made after the shocking loss to UTEP.

Hank Bachmeier completed 38 percent of his passes for 93 yards and one touchdown in the loss to UTEP. After the game, the Broncos fired offensive coordinator Tim Plough. Two days after that, Bachmeier left the program and entered the transfer portal.

George Holani had 16 catches for 75 yards, while Latrell Caples had four catches for 30 yards.

Boise State has played well defensively, giving up 20.5 points per game. They’ve struggled against the run and they’re facing one of the best rushing teams in the league and will have to do a better job if they want to win this game.

Insiders Status:

The Broncos are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Miners, which cost offensive coordinator Tim Plough his job. They got more bad news on Tuesday when four-year starter Hank Bachmeier entered the transfer portal, which has put an end to his time at Boise State, giving the job to freshman quarterback Taylen Green, who struggled in limited action. They don’t run the ball well and also aren’t very good at throwing it. The Aztecs aren’t great defensively, but they have played well so far, especially against the run, and will focus on stopping the run and forcing Green to beat them with his arm, which isn’t going to happen. The Aztecs aren’t high-flying offensively, but they do have one of the best running games in the country, with the team gaining over 220 yards on the ground. The Broncos have had trouble stopping the run when facing good running teams and will have a hard time slowing them down, so go with the Aztecs to cover the spread.

Prediction: San Diego State Aztecs +6.5

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

The Aztecs are averaging 20.5 points per game, but they scored only seven points in their only road game, which came against a tough Utah team. They run the ball well and they’re facing a defense that has struggled against the run, so expect them to hit their average in this game. The Broncos are averaging 21.8 points per game. Even though they scored 30 points in their only home game, they won’t score a lot of points against the Aztecs because they are dealing with changes at the coordinator position and at quarterback and don’t run the ball well. With the Aztecs not giving up more than 14 points to a non-Power 5 opponent, they will keep the Broncos from scoring enough points to push the score over the total, so go with the under here. The Aztecs and Broncos played under the total in their last three meetings.

Prediction: Under 39
