Stanford Looks To Get Back To .500
The Stanford Cardinal have been extremely underwhelming this season. The Cardinal have lost five of their first nine games and are in serious danger of missing a bowl game for the first time since 2008. As a result, this is a "must-win" game for the program as it cannot afford to require victories against California and Notre Dame in the final two games in order to qualify for a bowl game. Therefore, Stanford will do whatever is possible to get back to a .500 record on Saturday against the worst team left on its remaining schedule in terms of record.
Leading the Cardinal offensively is senior quarterback K.J. Costello
who has had a rocky season. So far this season, he has thrown for 1,038 passing yards and six passing touchdowns. However, he has already missed several games this season due to injury which has led to some of Stanford's struggles. To make matters worse, Costello is not guaranteed to even play in this game as he is currently being listed as questionable. If he is unable to go, backup quarterback Davis Mills would get the start.
Defensively, Stanford has been very underwhelming this season and could use serious improvement. The Cardinal are allowing 26.7 points per game which ranks 61st in the nation. In addition, the Cardinal are allowing 407.8 yards per game which ranks 76th in the nation. Now, Stanford will look for a better defensive performance on Saturday against one of the most productive offenses in the nation.
