Los Angeles has a chance to pick up another win over an NFC opponent when it travels to New York on Sunday afternoon. The Rams have won four of their first five games, including a 26-17 win at Seattle last week. New York is coming off a 44-20 blowout loss at Dallas and could be without its starting quarterback once again on Sunday afternoon.

Rams continue to torch opposing defenses

Los Angeles opened the season with a bang, winning its first three games. One of those wins came against reigning Super Bowl champs Tampa Bay in Week 3. The Rams suffered their lone loss the following week, dropping a 37-20 decision against Arizona, who is 5-0 to start the season. They bounced back in another divisional game last Thursday, notching a 26-17 win at Seattle. Los Angeles is now one game back of Arizona in the division, while Seattle and San Francisco are both three games behind. The Rams have been a solid offensive team, ranked No. 9 in the NFL with 408.2 yards per game.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has completed 68.0% of his passes for 1,587 yards and 12 touchdowns, throwing just three interceptions. His top target has been wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who has caught 37 passes for 523 yards and five touchdowns. Robert Woods has added 27 receptions for 322 yards. Running back Darrell Henderson Jr. leads the rushing attack with 60 carries for 294 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt. He has rushed for more than 80 yards in each of his last two games. Los Angeles will be facing a New York defense that is the fourth-worst in the league, allowing 408.6 yards per game.

Giants dealing with slew of injuries

New York has had a very disappointing start to the season—and not just because of its 1-4 record. The Giants have dealt with multiple key injuries, including star running back Saquon Barkley, quarterback Daniel Jones, wide receiver Kadarius Toney, wideout Sterling Shepard and wide receiver Kenny Golladay. The Giants have already ruled out Barkley and Golladay for Sunday’s game, while the other three players are all listed as questionable. New York’s offense mustered 20 points against Dallas last week, but it was not enough to compete with the Cowboys in a 44-20 loss. Journeyman Mike Glennon started for New York, completing 16 of 25 attempts for 196 yards. He also threw one touchdown and two interceptions.

Running back Devontae Booker started in place of Barkley, rushing 16 times for just 42 yards. Toney had 10 receptions for 189 yards before suffering an ankle injury. The Giants rank No. 12 offensively (380.6 YPG), but those numbers are going to drop if key players remain sidelined. Head coach Joe Judge said Jones is “on track” to return on Sunday from his concussion, so that will be something for bettors to monitor. Jones has completed 64.3% of his passes for 1,282 yards and four touchdowns. He is also the team’s top rusher with 30 carries for 197 yards. They will be facing a Rams defense that has declined since last season, ranked No. 23 in the NFL with 388.2 yards allowed per contest. They rank No. 13 in scoring defense, though.

Insiders Status:

This line has been ticking towards double digits throughout the week and it has finally reached that point. Some of the value has been sucked away, but I still have no interest in backing New York. The Giants could be blown out on Sunday afternoon if they are missing most of their key players offensively. Los Angeles has not been great defensively, but it has tightened up in the red zone. New York will not be able to take advantage of those defensive woes if most of its skill players are sidelined. The Rams have been putting up big numbers offensively all season and that will continue against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams -10

Full-Game Total Pick

Insiders Status:

These teams have been trending in opposite directions as far as the total is concerned, but I would rather side with Los Angeles and the over. The Rams have gone over in six of their last seven games, as Stafford has completely changed the offense. He provides a deep-ball threat that they were missing over the last few years. New York should have Jones back at quarterback. Barkley is obviously a huge loss, but the Giants have not been able to run the ball without him. They are going to be forced to pass more, which is good news for the over. The Rams have gone over in five of their last seven road games.

Prediction: Over 48
