When and where: November 18, 2018, State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ, 4:05 PM ET

The moribund Oakland Raiders will take their pitiful show on the road on Sunday to Glendale to face the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals. A win over the Cleveland Browns is all the Raiders have to show for success so far in the eagerly-anticipated Jon Gruden era. They are coming off five consecutive losses, including last Sunday’s home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are coming off a tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Another seven weeks of agony for the city of Oakland

Oakland fans would be better off enjoying the time they have left with the Golden State Warriors because the season for the soon-to-be Las Vegas Raiders is already over.

Gruden knew exactly what he was doing when he traded former Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears and top receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys. He was essentially washing his hands of the past in order to build his team of the future.

Unfortunately for Oakland fans, those plans will nix any hopes the city had of competing for a Super Bowl since the Raiders are in full-on tank mode at this point. Obviously, the remaining players on the roster will do their part to compete every week, even though they lack the personnel to win football games. There’s a good chance they won’t win another game this season, which is a shame considering how long Oakland fans have supported the organization.

No fan base deserves the kind of disappointment they’ve been forced to endure for so many years. The offense couldn’t even score a touchdown in last Sunday’s rivalry game against the Chargers. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr finished the game with 24 completions for 243 passing yards.

Cardinals show life in loss to the Chiefs

The Cardinals were expected to get rolled up like a yoga mat by a Chiefs team that is arguably the best in football. Chiefs red-hot quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the leading MVP candidate orchestrating one of the greatest offenses in NFL history, and yet, the underdog Cardinals somehow managed to make a game out of last Sunday’s non-conference tilt.

It was one of the few games where Mahomes actually looked human. The Cardinals defense was relentless with the pressure up front, finishing with five sacks and 10 tackles for a loss. All-Pro defensive end Chandler Jones continued to show the kind of disruptive force he can be up front by registering two sacks and two tackles for a loss. Not only was it Mahomes’ worst passing day, but it marked only the second time this season he had passed for less than 300 yards.

If not for the struggles from rookie quarterback Josh Rosen, the Cardinals might have had a better shot at pulling off an upset. The 2018 first-round draft pick finished with 208 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Public Money / Line Movements

Arizona has gotten 53% of the bets, but the line has moved from Arizona -3 to -4.5. Looks like the sharps are helping that line some on Arizona.

Injury / Weather Report

No Weather Issues Expected

Oakland’s Impact Injury Report

WR Martavis Bryant  (266 Yards) and WR Jordy Nelson (353 Yards, 3 TDs) are both out.

Arizona’s Impact Injury Report

DB Budda Baker (75 Tackles) and WR Chad Williams (113 Yards) are both out.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Not much hope can be gleaned from either one of these teams after such a rough 2018 season. The Cardinals are being patient with the development of Rosen, and the Raiders are sinking to the bottom of the fish tank with an incomplete roster. However, a betting man would be wise to stick with the Cardinals at home in this match-up.

Cardinals head coach Steven Wilks doesn’t believe in moral victories because that isn’t his job. He works from the black-and-white perspective of solely being paid to win football games. But there is some hope the defense can continue to build on their tremendous performance against the Chiefs. Perhaps the offense will also continue to get former All-Pro running back David Johnson more involved.

There is no better friend of a rookie quarterback than a versatile running back capable of shortening the field. The Cardinals committing to the running attack is significant heading into a game against a team with the third-worst rushing defense. Even for Rosen, there isn’t much to fear from a Raiders defense that lost its heart the moment it traded away Mack.

Prediction: Arizona Cardinals (-5)

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

The under is 20-7 in the Cardinals last 27 games played at home and 6-1 in the Raiders last seven games played on the road. There isn’t much to work with offensively for Carr with the absence of Cooper and running back Marshawn Lynch, who is out for the season with an injury. Receiver Jordy Nelson is also questionable to play on Sunday. The Cardinals aren’t in any better shape offensively with Rosen’s shaky quarterback play.

Prediction: Under (40.5)
