Lines: Tennessee -3
Sunday afternoon on the NFL gridiron and a couple inter-conference foes will square off as the Seattle Seahawks invade Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee to rumble with the Tennessee Titans. The Seahawks come in off a hard-fought 12-6 win over the Niners, while the Titans blates the Jaguars on the road by a score of 37-16. These teams last met in 2013, in Seattle, and the Seahawks won the game by a score of 20-13.
Seahawks Survive Huge Scare From Niners
The Seattle Seahawks are picked by some to be in the Super Bowl this year, but they have to be a little bit concerned with the way they played in their home game against the Niners on Sunday. The Seahawks went into that game as 13.5 point favorites but just couldn’t shake one of the worst teams in the league and at one point they were down 9-6 in the 4th quarter before getting a TD pass from Russell Wilson to Paul Richardson to go up 9-6 with seven minutes left. They missed the XP, but still, the Niners could not capitalize with a tying FG. The Seahawks won the game, but it should not have been as close as it was and now they have to try and regroup in time to take on a much tougher Tennessee squad on the road. The Niners were the worst defensive team in the league last year, but the Seahawks could muster just 312 yards against them in the win.
Russell Wilson was just 23 of 39 for 198 yards and a TD in the win. He is not off to a great start as he has a 76.3 QBR through two games so far and his team as a whole has scored just 21 total points through two games. The good news is that they did have 131 yards rushing against the Niners and getting the ground game going is key, especially after struggling to run the ball last year. Chris Carson led them against the Niners with 93 yards, while Wilson was second with 34. The one area that is not a concern for this team is their defense that has allowed just 305 ypg and 13 ppg through their first two games so far. Last week they held the Niners to just 248 total yards but will get a much stiffer test this week against a good Tennessee offense.
Running Game/ Defense Keys Rout Of Jaguars
The Tennessee Titans have been picked by many to win the AFC South Title and possibly be a darkhorse for the Super Bowl. They didn’t start off in good fashion as they fell to the Raiders at home by a score of 26-16 to open the season. Well, they got back on track last week with a solid 37-16 road win over the Jaguars. Last year, the Jaguars were 6th in the league in total yards allowed and they gave up just 107 ypg on the ground, but the Titans were one of the best rushing teams in the league last year and they piled up 179 yards on the ground in their win against the Jaguars. Derrick Henry led the team with 92 yards on the ground and a TD after rushing for just 25 yards and no TDs against the Raiders. Marcus Mariota didn’t have a great game as he hit just 15 of 27 passes for 215 yards with a TD and an INT. He has just a 78.7 QBR through two games so far.
The Defense played well in the game, but how can you know play well when Blake Bortles is the opposing QB. The Jags really have a problem at QB, but the Titans are not complaining. Bortles threw for 223 yards and a TD against them, but they also picked off two of his passes and sacked him twice. They also allowed just 99 yards on the ground in the game. Far better defense than the 359 yards they allowed to the Raiders in their opening loss and they have a shot at another solid defensive effort against a Seattle team that has really struggled on offense so far this year. They will need Mariota to be a bit better than he has been as they are taking on a very good Seattle defense.
- 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game
- 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight up win
- 5-1 ATS in their last six games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game
- 4-1 ATS the last five games in this series
This should be a very interesting game as the Seahawks have not played well at all so far, while the Titans have had one bad game and one good game. The Titans are picked by many to win their division and I would have to agree with that as they are going to be a solid offensive team and their defense is much improved. They are a team that runs the ball very well and that is a must in the NFL these days. The Seahawks have a good defense, but they have major questions about their offense right now and I just don’t see that offense producing enough points to win this one against a Tennessee that looks to make a statement.
Pick: Tennessee -3
The Tennessee Titans had a chance to make a statement in their opener against the Raiders, but that didn’t happen. Last week they played very well as their offense put up 36 points on a pretty good defense. This week they will be facing a better defense and will really use their ground attack to try and soften up that Seahawk defense, but throwing on them will not be that easy as the Seahawks have a very good secondary. The Seattle offense has put up just 21 points in their first two weeks and this will be the best defense they have faced so far. I do not see them getting a ton of points in this one. Both defenses are solid and both offenses will run the ball a lot, which will lead to a low-scoring game.
